These google.com pages caused IE for the Mac to hang indefinitely. Early reports indicated that turning off either style sheets or frames, but not scripting, would stop the crashes. I discovered that adding any white space between the /iframe and div tags stopped the crashes.
My later analysis showed that putting any content between the div tags or adding a doctype declaration also stopped the crashes.
Several people reported that this Google bug could stop IE from opening if it normally automatically opened a home page set to google.com. In cases where IE is the default browser clicking on a safe link in an email etc allows it to open so that the home page can be changed. In other cases dropping an html file onto IE's icon should be adequate.

The problem for anyone who uses it is that whatever sites Google returns will have a high likelihood of not displaying properly or causing the browser to hang - it was once the best browser available, but that was a long time ago.
As the article notes, there are no decent browsers for OS9 now - as far as I am aware it can only run IE5, Mozilla 1.1, Netscape 7, Opera 6 and iCab 3, all of which are unsatisfactory for the modern web (Mozilla seems to work best, but the makers themselves advise against using it).
Anyone using IE5 on OSX should have noticed by now that the internet is broken...
