Hey toomuch - What kind of system update? Did you restart computer immediately after. Did you run 'repair disc permissions'? This has to be done everytime you do a software update from apple. Restart always clears up alot of wierdness, & is necessary after any install of any software.
- Safari is wonky. I use it almost exclusively, but there is a new odd behaviour at every turn. If you did both of above, there is one supported move - Choose 'reset safari' from safari scroll down. You loose all your autofill & saved passwords & modified preferences. Everything goes back to default. Cache & cookies emptied. Solves much weirdness for no discernable reason.
- then there's a further but somewhat unsupported trick. I learned this right off the Apple support forum after a hair-raising upgrade from 10.1 to 10.3. It's called trashing the .plist file. It doesn't hurt at all. Here's what you do. First, quit Safari. Do not do this while app is running! Go to the folders' users/home ( your user account name here w/ an icon of a house)/library/preferences ' . Find the file com.apple.Safari.plist . Some people advise that, instead of dragging this file directly to the trash, you drag it to the desktop & rename it. Others that you make a copy. I'd rename this as well because os x has the amazing ability to 'follow' files wherever you move them! This is done, instead of dragging directly to trash, just in case the problem is not related to the preference file ( preference list, or .plist), but can still be fixed another way. If you just drag your .plist file to the trash & it's a different problem, well, now you've got 2 problems! This trick solves alot of software misbehaviour, not just safari. I use it especially to clear up 3rd party app behaviour ( crashes on launch, for instance, are almost always fixed by this.). For safari, i just drag the .plist file to the trash, if it's not a critical problem, that is. I delete it too. Then start safari. the .plist file is recreated. I restart my computer 1st though, just because. I restart every time i make any major changes. Just moving massive amounts of files around can sometimes incite unusual & worrying symptoms. If you've got alot of start-up items, get rid of all but the most necessary. Restarts fast then. You've got to do it when need arises.
- Anyway, if all this doesn't fix the blue bar, just wait. it'll change eventually. It does usually mean a page is not fully loaded though. When i download a .jpg & the page isn't fully loaded, when i try to open it in preview it gives an error, or pic is distorted. So you can check to see if you can download .jpgs while bar is hanging blue, & if they open, then just let it happen man. Ride w/ safari.Don't worry - be happy.
