In a different thread ( [webmasterworld.com...] ) I remarked on adventures "new" to me as a Windows Buff helping out a few folks by recently saving borked Win systems with Mint, or underperforming/strained Win10 upgrade from Win7 on perfectly valid hardware---just stressed to the breaking point.

This adventure was originally done as a favor to a neighbor which evolved to include his family (Mom and Sis). All of a sudden I have an unexpected source of income AFTER RETIREMENT (I'm 71 and had already sold off all my 'net business). It now looks like if I keep playing this Win to 'Nix adventure just to keep brain sharp and "have something to do" I might actually have to report INCOME at annual tax time if this keeps up!

Since the last post (link noted above) I have serviced 8 recommendations from "satisfied customers" (I don't sell anything other than my skills) and ended up with enough ka-ching that equals 40 Mickey D Happy Meals each client. As an aside, for an additional 5 Mickey D Happy Meals, the client can get a permanent snapshot of their data (256gb---obviously more meals required for larger data collections).

As a WIN GUY I am pretty efficient in snagging the client's data, email/prefs, etc. Other fun is word of mouth actually works a lot better than adsense ever did. :)

YMMV

(NOTE: Win folks who lean toward Linux might find this post useful. Perhaps not so much for Linux folks who are not that familiar with Windows).

Fun Stuff!

Tech stuff: Mint (does what Joe Average needs).

Ubuntu is my box, mostly command line (see earlier thread for why).

What seems to be the heart of the matter is 'Nix is actually more stable/reliable than the Win distros out there and the constant updates leading to SaaS ... which is heading BACK to BIG IRON (cloud) and turning personal computers into dumb terminals.
