Did you download Ubuntu 18.04 LTS (Bionic Beaver)? That is so Canadian. The one released TODAY?!? You are braver than I. I usually wait until there are nag messages, and then wait some more. My friend has had issues with Ubuntu 17.10 and had to revert back to Ubuntu 16.04. You might want to do the same and wait.

I believe that the Unity desktop is gone, replaced by Gnome 2?!? Canonical is no longer supporting unity, so they dropped it, preferring to concentrate on server. I actually like unity, so may not upgrade until someone forces me to go.

Thanks for the heads up, I'm still on 14.04. Not looking forward to update, but I think that day is coming quickly.

Your day has arrived. Ubuntu 14.04 has officially expired. The 14.04 to 16.04 upgrade was flawless. I recommend it.

The official and final release images of Ubuntu should be released anytime soon, but that hasn’t happened yet. The official Release Notes page still says: “Ubuntu 18.04 LTS HAS NOT BEEN RELEASED YET and is not recommended for use on production systems or on your primary computers yet.”

The other issue is that upgrading to 16 now will be upgrading to a nearly equivalently obsolete package. I was thinking of waiting for 18.

16.04 still has 2 years of maintenance, so far from obsolete. Upgrade. 18.04 lts is not yet released. If you like 18.04, put it on a usb stick and do a temporary boot.

Upgraded to Lubuntu 18.04 LTS about 48 hours ago. Nothing to report other than PC being upgraded slowed it a bit while it did it's thing.

For some reasons, I've never been comfortable with Ubuntu.

I'm tempted to move to Debian, as I've broken my Ubuntu installation a good couple of times over the past 10 years of using it, always through updates/installs of stuff.

I'll be waiting a month or two before attempting 18.04, there was a fairly critical bug reported yesterday for new installations [bugs.launchpad.net...]

Years ago I started with lubuntu. An update broke it, badly. I moved to Ubuntu 12.04 and have had a good run ever since. Ubuntu has a much wider following, so there are people to ask for help.

That said I have installed Debian, and it seems rock solid. I don't have long-term experience with Debian. Debian stable is rock stable as compared to Ubuntu, which is more like Debian Experimental.

I am with Debian since it exists, or almost, never had a single problem with.

I still use Mint for most things, currently a new mail server on Mint 18.3 (based on Ubuntu 16.04).

For my desktop I use Manjaro - also building a backup mail server using it. Advantage is it's Arch based abd has rolling updates, so less hassle on new upgrades.
