Shame. It might have reduced the number of windows machines and hence the number of compromised machines being used for botnets. But then, I suppose that applies world-wide. :(

It appears that the reason for its failure was that Rad Flag was losing market share to other Linux distros:
The headline makes it sound as if the shutdown was due to some governmental action-- which I'm fully prepared to believe, only it doesn't seem to be the case. "X shuts down Y" and "Y closes doors" are different headlines.
