You can use it to choose between multiple versions of Linux, DOS, Windows, etc.
On my Windows machine, I use Paragon Boot Manager to boot either Windows or DOS. (The latter for disk copy/maintainence software.) On my Linux machine, I just use Grub. (For Linux/DOS).
Of course, you'll have to make sure you have enough unused space on your hard drive, and make sure to install Linux into the unused space. You may need to use some volume shrink software first if you have unused space but it's allocated for a Windows volumes already.
