HomeSite 5.5

How many are still using it?

After reading through the thread on mass search and replace [webmasterworld.com], I was really kind of surprised to see so many shout outs for HomeSite.

I'd thought it was abandonware, but apparently, Adobe is still selling version 5.5 (so, no updates in YEARS), for $99 USD.

I'll use notepad, or pspad, in a pinch, but when it comes to cranking out big chunks of HTML, I always run back to HomeSite.

Now, we all know that industry types actually pay attention to what gets said here (which is one of the nice things about WebmasterWorld, really), so I was wondering how many people here still rely on HomeSite?

And how many would love to see it updated. And what would those updates be?

For me:
- Better support for Modern CSS
- A preview tab that lets you render in as many browsers as you have installed on your system.
- Updated javascript libraries

Anything else?

I mean, come on Adobe, how hard would it be to put a little love into a product that must be a slow but steady revenue stream? Almost $100 a copy for software that hasn't been touched in, what, 5 years? Longer?

I still use 5.5 at least once a month.
HomeSite came bundled with DW 3 way back when and I got used to using it for tasks like search and replace.

I'm not sure if I would upgrade it or not as I have other tools that I use for the things HomeSite can't do. Now, if they would have kept up with updates and the "other" tools didn't fall into daily use it would be a different story.

Not sure what version I use, but I'm pretty sure it's older than 5.5. :) And I use it just about every day.

At my consulting gig I use Studio 4.5.

As for updates, I guess the only thing I might ask for is a function for setting the version of Cold Fusion you're coding for.

Yep...still have HS 4.5. In fact it's one of about 6 programs that sits in my quick launch bar and has been forever it seems.

dropped using homesite few years ago. (it was our html team decision)
they replaced homesite with dreamweaver as far as i can recollect

Homesite was made by Nick Bradbury. He sold it to Allaire. Nick went on to make the successor to Homesite, TopStyle. TopStyle is primarily a CSS editor, but it does HTML/XHTML just as well.

Stefan van As is the current developer of TopStyle. If you're a Homesite fan, TopStyle might be something to look at. The new beta [svanas.dynip.com] is quite impressive.

I use Homesite 5.5 bundled with TopStyle 3.5 and HTML Validator 9.0 daily. They work for me.

I guess I better go check out the beta for TopStyle. Thanks for the heads-up.

I like the Validate Page option for finding HTML errors.

I've used HomeSite everyday for 10 years and love it. I've been using 5.5 ever since its release. I program in ColdFusion so the tag support is great. I'd buy an upgrade just to get a new box with 'Adobe' printed on it :)

I still use Homesite for extended search and replace, and for editing text files (such as .htaccess) that are too big for Notepad.
