Votes Macromedia Homesite, yes it does autocompletion but I've disabled it, I find it as annoying as my wife looking over my shoulder pointing out my typos. :-)

Very powerful editor.

I second the vote for Macromedia Homesite (now owned by Adobe). Great editor, with a free 30 day trial. The price is $99.

However, if you need something that's free, then HTML-Kit is a great free editor. HTML-Kit is a little harder to configure, but still a great tool. You can also download plugins for it.

Wow, I'm surprised so many people still use Homesite. I thought I was old fashioned for hanging onto it :) I've tried quite a few others and keep coming right back to it.

I also have the auto complete off, annoyed the heck out of me, but the feature is there if anyone wants it.

I use Eclipse nowadays, but it uses a lot more resources than HomeSite, which still has a place on my desktop. PHPEclipse, JSEclipse and CSS Editor are my plugins of choice.

For Eclipse (also free), there is also the Web Tools Platform (WTP). In general, I love Eclipse for Java/JSP development. It's ok for HTML/CSS as well, but I find Homesite and HTML-Kit better suited for those tasks.

What version? I'm still stuck in the version that came with the first release of Studio MX (5.2) And can say from the previous to this version it was LIGHT years difference.

The main reason I elected to try it is that it can save files as Unix or PC, if you do any perl programming and uploading via FTP you will know the importance of this capability.

There are so many things you can do with it . . the validators are awesome . . . validate for multiple document types or as few as you want . . . got HTML tidy built in . . . completely configurable quick keys and you can configure and basically re-program many parts of the program itself . . . config. you own new document templates . . . I only use about half of available features in it and just can't see using anything else.

I use it to code html, perl, C+, VB, pretty much everything.

Another vote for HomeSite- been using it since around '98.

I use a little known editor called WeBuilder.

I tried lots of different editors, and settled on this one, seemed best for my needs, and works the way I wanted to work.

Do any of these editors (Homesite, Eclipse, WeBuilder etc.) have the ability of saving as UTF-8 encoded? (Like windows Notepad can!)

I use HTML-Kit, as mentioned by others above, great editor, but it cannot save UTF-8 encoded files. HTML-Kit does, however, have the 'Unicode Pad' which enables you to insert encoded characters into a standard windows encoded file - ok for small bits n pieces.

i use editplus, which can do that, plus if you take the time to learn is an incredibly powerful yet simple to use text editor.
i'm on version 2.11, not sure if it's ever been updated since then.
