Google Chrome has always tracked its users. Not necessarily any PII - but your behavior, your habits, your interests. That was its purpose. This Forbes article appears to be taking advantage of peoples naivete in thinking that Google just built and shared it because they like you. I did not read the whole article because Forbes has become a place to post stuff with as much reliability as maybe Reddit imho.

It is not that Chrome has suddenly changed, it is that other browsers such as Firefox and Safari safeguard your privacy by default and let you decide how your browser handles cookies and cross site tracking.

not2easy I've been aware of Google's BS for a long time I'm hoping more users begin to see the evil in this company and move away from using their spyware.
It looks to me by the increase in negative publicity it might just move in that direction.

Yes, other browser that use Blink/Chromium engine do have ad blockers, 3rd party blockers, tracker blockers....many of them by default. Google can't do that as it breaks "their web". It would block all google analytics and a great deal of advertising.

For example, I've not seen an AdSense ad in years - nor counted in anyones Google analytics.
Google wont do that with Chrome because it would hurt their bottom line.

Chrome, however, appears to be the "default" browser for most of the web. Perhaps this "alert" will fall on deaf ears ... as we all know that users are pretty simplistic in "gimme, gimme, gimme" and not all that concerned about anything else. :)
