Google Chrome and AVG AntiVirus have been in what appears testy communications over an AVG AntiVirus extension called "AVG Web TuneUp" which Google pointed out adds numerous Javascript APIs to Chrome with the purpose of hijacking search settings on a new tab.

[code.google.com...]

According to AVG it attended to the issue, but google has decided it won't permit AVG to auto-install the extension for new users while the Chrome security team take a closer look.

This was a significant security issue, but it now appears fixed.

Even after 3 years "at least" I'm still wondering what all of the fuss is about, other than a simple fight over control. Both Google Chrome and AVG are rubbish -- It's like they are made for each other.

Chrome couldn't make it on it's own, so we found it bundled with other legitimate software, hoping that no one would notice it -- Same with AVG --

It's really kind of funny how Chrome ends up getting it's nose all out of joint for doing the very same things that AVG does.

Two peas in a pod those two -- Trojans all

At the end of the day it all boils down to which of the two Trojans you want to trust the most - Chrome or AVG?
