Advice for cleaning out the clutter without losing data

I have been using Adwords for the past 8 years, and I have created and retired a lot of campaigns. The retired campaigns have simply been paused, because very occasionally I like to refer back to the data. Also, I understand (from this board) that Google factors account history in your QS, so I worry about the effect of deleting history.

The new interface and Adwords Editor get really confusing with hundreds of paused campaigns, thousands of paused keywords and hundreds of paused ads. How do you manage the clutter? I'm looking for a system that works without forever losing data.

I use letters to in front of my campaigns to alphabetize them.... especially when I take over an account, I don't want to delete the old campaigns but I do want to get them out of my way... So I add a "ZZ" to the front of all the old campaigns. Then, if you need to do some filtering, you can filtering out of the campaigns that contain "ZZ" in the advanced filter tool in the editor.

It's a work around, but it works for me....

Data for "ended" and "deleted" campaigns are still available in the Reports section.

Also they are never really deleted entirely (you can still download them in Adwords Editor), and they can be resumed if needed. But you should have everything you need in the Reports.

If you wanted, you could export to CSV from Editor, then delete them. So you had the structure archived as well.
