I've got a new client that had decided he would do affiliate marketing and managed to get banned from Google. Well at least I think he is banned. He had an account opened then his ads quit showing. Then he opened two or three new accounts. I got to looking at his stuff and the first thing I told him was to close all but one account. So I'm in the process of doing that. He does have a legit business he has started, which is what he ended up coming to me for.
So my question is this, what are the correct steps to get him back good with google? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
tell him, he needs to create a new account with new credit, new name, new address and a new domains. the only way to get around the ban
Normally, when an advertiser has been banned (as you put it, katieray) it means that AdWords is declining to run further advertisements for the advertiser. In other words, it is not the account that it suspended. It is the advertiser.
To be very straightforward, I would say that if you follow the above quoted advice, think of it as being at your own risk - as it is just this sort of thing that can get an advertiser suspended in the first place.
Were it me, I'd probably ask your client to let you see any and all emails from Adwords that led up to the suspension or which otherwise pertain to it - and then reply to the most recent (while logged in to that account), explaining your role, and asking if there anything that you can do as a new manager of the account.
Knowing nothing of the situation, I can not speak for the outcome of course.
AWA
I had 2 accounts with Google and 1 was used for affiliate marketing, the other for a 100% legit ecommerce business. I transitioned from affiliate marketing to ecommerce about a year+ ago, and hardly did anything with my old account. However, I still got banned due to not a TOS violation, but just a long history of submitting low quality pages.
Is there anything that can be done to at least reverse the suspension on my ecommerce account? I've tried to explain several times, but to no avail.
Any guidance would be greatly appreciated.
If they banned you for "low quality" pages then I don't see any way they will reinstate the account.
I find AdwordsAdvisor's suggestion to reply to the last email with an explanation near laughable because anyone who has ever dealt with this knows that you will just receive a canned response along the lines of "you're banned, don't contact us again".
AWA, is it Google's policy to review accounts that have been banned for "low quality" and reinstate them?
having 2 accounts is pretty much the worst breach of TOS that isn't always automatically stopped before it can happen - you got caught and you can't use adwords again - you have no chance at all of getting them to unsuspend you
If Google told you to open a new account, but then didn't follow up and connect them; it can be useful to talk to your rep and explain why you have the multiples and they should be able to fix the issues.
Although it is true that unless you're told to do it by Google, having 2 accounts is pretty much an instant ban if you get caught.
Are both your accounts linked in MCC?
However, my adwords account is now “under review.” I can only assume it is because I was logging into his account. I have not heard I’ve been suspended yet, waiting on that email…ugh.
I refuse to go through the pain of changing all my contact info, bank info, etc…. there should be a better way to get a manual review. I can see why Google has the rules they do, but once a body has conformed to all the rules they should give you a chance.
I mean people mess up. My client had no idea what he was doing and I had no idea that trying to help him would backfire and I would get flagged also.
If Google is going to take over the world then you should be able to call at least one Google do-over ;-)
The non-abyssal business world would be more knowledgeable, or more honest, or both. Sooner or later.
