Locked out of Adwords account!

Last Friday, I opened my Gmail account just to found out that it was disabled ("uitgeschakeld" in Dutch).
So Google must think I did something naughty (which I didn't).
That's not much of a problem, since I only used the Gmail account to catch my email of my email addresses when out of town, which is seldom.

However, I'm locked out of my Adwords account too, with a campaign running! I tried several ways of contacting Google and noone responds.

I spent $ 20,000 last year on Adwords, which is a lot for a 1 person business (at least for me it is) and now I find myself completely let down by Google!

Noone from Google ever contacted me to tell me what I suppozedly did wrong, they just locked me out.

And if I'm the bad guy the obviuosly think I am, why is my ad still running then?

I'm excluded from their services, but my money is still good enough?
Who is going to pay for the ads (I normally shut them down in the weekends since using them for 5 years learnt me that my widgets don't sell in the weekend) but now I simply couldn't because I had no access (and still haven't) to my account.

Anyone out there who can help me? I mailed 3 times to several Google departments, phoned them but got an answering machine saying they don't provide help by the phone.

I'm getting desperate (and am asking myself if it's legal that they take my money, when I have absolutely no control over it)

Have you tried calling them.
Phone: +1 650-253-0000
Fax: +1 650-253-0001
Explain to the operator your account has I believe been compromised and need assistance in getting back into the account so you can cut off the ads until this is resolved.

maybe someone else can get you a better number to call as I assume your not in the US.

I really feel this isn't something Google has done but you account has been hijacked.

Someone may have made too many attempts to get into your account? Every now and then I get emails from someone trying to retrieve the password for my gmail; I never had it happen with Google, but other places (like GoDaddy or Fabulous) will lock you out it someone makes repeated attempts to break in. However, they usually let you know how to contact them to reactivate.

Come to think of it, I've never heard of Google disabling a GMail account for bad behavior (maybe unless they thought you were spamming or something?) So it's probably some glitch.

I phoned their Dutch office yesterday, but all I got there was an answering machine saying they don't answer queries by phone. (why putting a phone number on their support pages if it's not usable?)
Today I tried their fax, but had no reply yet.
I'll try the number in the US, since I never had given a second thought about my account being hijacked.
I don't mind the couple of $ for the long distance call, if it gives me back my peace of mind.
I'll keep you posted.

This is unbelievable.
I called their US number as suggested above, listened to a list of options, pressed "5" as this was the most appropriate option, then got another list of which I pressed "3", and then I got the message (after 2-3 minutes) that Google doesn't offer phone support and that I needed to contact them through their website!

FYI information, this is what I received from Google, after filing a report (as they suggest) on their website, last Friday and yesterday:

Hello,

Thank you for your report.

You're receiving this auto-reply message because you indicated that your Gmail account has been disabled.

Please note that when we detect unusual usage of your account, we may temporarily disable access to the account as we investigate. Please wait 24 hours and re-try to login to your account.

If you're using POP or IMAP to sign in to Gmail and receive a 'Sorry, your account has been disabled' message, please try logging in through the web interface at [mail.google.com....] When we detect unusual usage of your account, Gmail sometimes requires users to respond to a 'captcha,' consisting of a set of distorted letters, to log in to their account.

If you receive a 'Sorry, your account has been disabled' message when visiting [mail.google.com...] and believe that your account has been disabled in error, please reply to this message so we can investigate your situation and assist you in regaining access to your account if appropriate.

In most cases, Gmail accounts are disabled because of a perceived violation of Gmail Terms of Use. Google reserves the right to suspend a Gmail address or the entire Google Account if Gmail Terms of Use are violated. If you know your account has violated our Terms of Service agreement, do not reply to this message, as our team is unable to assist further.

Additionally, if you already have an open correspondence with a Gmail support agent, please reply to the last message, as that agent will be better able to aid you.

For other issues not listed here, please visit the Gmail Help Center at [mail.google.com...] Also, if this issue has since been resolved, please discard this message.

Sincerely,

The Google Team

To make it worse:

Just called Amex in order to block invoices offered by Google Adwords until this is settled, but they can't, since I gave Google Adwords permission to charge my card...

I was delighted to find that I could get thru (0011 +1 +866-246-6453).

The good news is that it is not related to Google Adwords, but to Gmail.
May be you can get another gmail and change the login.

Hello aapbe - In a very quick scan of this thread I didn't see if you had contacted AdWords support directly yet or not - but this is what I'd advise.

Since you do not have access to your account, I'd suggest doing this by using the 'Contact Us' link at the bottom of each page in the AdWords Help Center.

(As an aside - and not to say this pertains to your case - I have heard of cases in which Gmail accounts were closed when they were used for repeated spamming of Google Groups.)

Hello again,

I was on the phone for an hour yesterday evening (866-246-6453) and the very friendly girl tried to assist me in any way she could. She could easily log in to my account, and didn't see what was wrong. We tried several ways to log in, using different email-addresses and changed passwords. Nothing helped. After about an hour (and most likely a big phone bill for me) the girl said she would investigate the matter with specialist help and would let me know by email.

This morning indeed I found an email with an "invititation link" te re-enter my account.

Which I couldn't....
using the new password: Username and password do not match
using the old password: your account has been disabled

To AdwordsAdvisor:

As I mentioned above I only opened the Gmail account to read email while away. I never even sent a single email with "my-username@gmail.com".

And even if they would suspect me from abusing my gmail account, is it logical they lock me out completely of my Adwords too, with a campaign still running? What has one thing to do with another?

When I first encountered the problem last week on Friday, I followed the steps I was told, filed a form, and got an auto-reply, which I should reply to if I thought my account was disabled with no good reason.
Although they claim "an investigation" takes 24 hours and I was advized to try and log in 24 hours, we're now 5 days and many auto-replies later, and I still haven't heard ANYTHING from ANY Google employee. Except for the Cynthia I called myself.
My hopes are on her to solve this, because judging from my experiences over the last week, the whole Google staff, both in the US and in Europe, consists of auto-responders and answering machines.

BTW, I did use the "contact us" link too as you suggest...and got an auto-reply.

aapbe (and most likely a big phone bill for me) Actually this is a tool free number Google paid it so call back there is something very strange about this.

The issue looks to me on your end and not a problem with Google as she can log in using your information why can't you.

Just a suggestion do you know a trusted friend that is on a different IP address that you can do a test with and see if they can log into the account.

Do you use special characters in your passwords?
If so, look for keyboard layout changes (Windows Control Panel).
That might get you to type something your are not trying to. Try to type it in notepad first, than paste it.

To bwnbwn: I doubt this is a tool free number for someone calling grom Belhium, Europe.

Cynthia, the Adwords rep. I talked to yesterday on the phone helped me to get back in my Adwords account today, by changing my login email address and password, so indeed the problem was with Google not with me.
I'm still locked out of my Gmail but I frankly don't give a damn, I can always open a new one.
Although I went several times through the procedure of having my Gmail unlocked, and although I should have had some light on this from Google within 24 hours of my initial attempt last Friday, noone at Google ever replied. Not Google HQ, neither Google Europe, neither Google Netherlands, where my Adwords account is "stationed" and who in fact should have helped me to start with, but never did.
For some reason, according to Cynthia, the fact that my Gmail was blocked, blocked also my access to Adwords, although my campaign kept on running.
So everyone who has a Gmail and Adwords account registered to the same name-account, be warned: this can happen to you too.
I have no clue as to why Google won't give me a reason as why my gmail was blocked, according to their auto-replies they should have contacted me after my first attempt to unlock the Gmail-account. They never did, up until now.
But thanks to Cynthia, I'm back in my Adwords account, which was the most important thing to me, after having been locked out for over 6 days.

aapbe
Glad you got it worked out that is a weird deal though.

866 numbers here are toll free numbers I blocked mine from all but the USA so yes it is a free call.

Be sure and save the number.

I'm going to paint the number on the wall inf front of me in 50 cm high numbers. :)
Although Adwords Netherlands wrote me last year that I was one of their top advertisers, and would receive priority help if ever needed, I know better now.
They never bothered to respond to my phone calls, fax and online forms.
And they don't seem to have a reachable phone number either.
Some goes for the Googlemail department: I've had it with them.
