What is a typical CPM for an entertainment website these days?

I have a website with about 1 million monthly pageviews.

My experiments with placing some small, unobtrusive adsense units up did not yield much revenue. About $500 per month. Then Google complained about me not having a GDPR consent thing. I tried to build one, but never managed to get Google to accept it. So I just removed all monetization from the site. Since then, I don't make any money from it and pay hosting etc out of my own pocket.

I would like to work on the site again, but there would have to be some way to monetize it. Are ads a viable approach? What are the typical CPMs for entertainment websites these days?

g offers a GDPR consent option you can invoke on your site/pages. Might try that. As for monetization, there are multiple ways to do this, but for most folks, the plug and play of adsense is the most common.

Meanwhile, you might consider selling ad space on your site to local/regional businesses that might like that kind of exposure. You do the marketing, billing, and collection of monies yourself instead of relying on a third party. (That's how I did it for near 20 years)

You have been managing that site for a good several years, if you have upto a million.

$500 a month, not bad. I would like that. Hehe

The do-it-yourself approach is 10x to 100x that and more (sometimes a LOT more!).

Also takes more time, personnel, and expenses---and a boat load of TUMS.

these days?

These days, it depends more of the profile of visitors, than the theme of the site.
