Do you guys tweak your Adsense account for blogging ads? like block low rpm ads or low cpc?
I'm thinking to jump over to Ezoic for optimisation but i feel like Adsense requires some little adjustment on blocking controls.
I have a blog that 90% visitors are tier 1 and i only get $2-4 per rpm and 0.10 - 0.15 cpc. traffic is about 20k pageviews per day.

Hi,

I tried blocking few categories but result are less fill rate no improvement of ad revenue. I tried ezoic in past. But they are not able to recover money adsense was paying (they even paid difference after 3 months, this is the only good thing about them). They make site slow and sometime inaccessible.

You are not alone with this kind of bad CPC. Its happening to almost everyone but its TINA factor.

Thank you so much, sir. I feel a little bit of acceptance now. I thought I was the only one who struggled with this.

Used to block ads back in the day, but it meant fewer ads and less competition leading to lower RPM. Now I just let everything run. Tried Ezoic maybe five or six years ago. Saw no improvement and did not like my site slathered with ads.

Some quick suggestions

- Don't block low RPM or lCPC ads, they will not show when there is a better paying ad available. Instead work on improving the content to attract better paying ads. A more valuable(to users) page often means higher paying ads. Remember, the CPC of an ad click is heavily influenced by the number of ads competing for a spot on that page.

- Don't focus exclusively on low traffic topics. Many gurus are preaching that you write about "under served" content so that you rank faster. Under served content often has a much smaller group of advertisers willing to bid on the ad slot, sometimes none. Under served often means too specific with a limited number of possible advertisers, regardless of topic.

- Consider leaving auto ads on but turning in page ads off. Try setting auto ads to only serve anchor ads and insert some native In-article ads manually and possibly a native multiplex ad at the bottom manually. By controlling the ad locations you can better A-B test your site.

I'd recommend not inserting the first manual ad unit until just at or just below the fold (on desktop). This will prevent content layout shift issues or visitors getting hit with too many ads up top and leaving. Insert a second ad further down the page where the first ad scrolls off the page a little(on desktop) to avoid multiple ads showing at once. A multiplex ad at the bottom with your similar content has good results on some sites too. Experiment!

- Focus on improving content, Better content tends to have a wider appeal and ranks for more keywords = more competition for ad slots = higher CPC

edit: I know an ad unit above the fold is recommended by many but an anchor ad is always above the fold and adsense sometimes serves them above the content, not just below. Try using the anchor ad as your above the fold unit... and test, test, test!

I've buttoned mine down so tightly so as to eliminate poor ads. The downside is that i have reduced income.

I tried Ezoic in the past but they absolutely plastered my site with ads, of course revenue is going to to up. I haven't used them for years, I just do my own A/B testing, I didn't see enough value in staying with them even though I loved the concept.

blocking bad ads is like playing whack-a-mole.
have you tried reducing the number of ads on your page? working on improving the active view stat and reducing the number of ad spots made my impressions go down a lot, but my earnings went up a lot. and you wont see so many lousy ads because there are less spaces to fill
