Made Preparations to Keep AdSense Running When You're Not?

I'm sure others will add some good content to this thread, so I'll start it.

August 13, 2013 started out as a normal day for me but really began to change when I stopped by my brother's house and soon started telling him about having pain in my back. After several times telling him he suggested we go to the hospital emergency room for a visit.

Long story short, my next memory is of me being transported about 55 miles away to a better equipped hospital by helicopter.
That was it as far as memory for days.

When that was over I was in a skilled nursing facility, about 70 pounds lighter, I was unable to write the alphabet letters and I could not stand up, much less walk. I had a stroke and heart attack at the same time.

As far as AdSense, access to my account was gone as was all the domains (good ones) I owned at the time.

It's been a fight to get back and some people on this board that I've never met helped.

Everyone should make plans today, what if this happens to you? Are you prepared?

I'm advancing in years, so I have a comprehensive Last Will & Testament. Included in that document is a list of my web properties, passwords, trademarks, financials, etc. Very well prepared for future mishaps.

Good plan and good thinking.

I'll just add that everyone should do that, advancing in years or not, we never know what might happen before sundown today.

I wrote my will when i get married, and again more after our daughter born, and so did my wife. Like that all is "ready", "in case". I also did like keyplyr. I carefull reference all my login / password / assets in a documents.

Something else to do is to keep your important domains registered a few years into the future, don't just assume that they'll autorenew at the last minute.

One thing we haven't discussed in this thread is who/what will happen assuming you have a document with all your passwords, login info etc. If there's no one to do anything useful with that information there is not much point in having it.

An even worse situation (almost) is a relative getting your documents and deciding "I'll take this stuff over to Billy Bob's, he knows computers" and then Billy Bob has the keys to the castle.

Are these documents maintained on paper or are they out there in the cloud somewhere?

My need to have a lot of that codified has disappeared over the years. I've out lived both ex-wives and my children. Two siblings have passed, a third is in nursing care, the last has more money than Midas....

But, I do have final plans, the will, documents, etc. and MY copies are kept in a bank deposit box and the only authenticated and notarized copies of those papers are in my lawyers office. That way Billy Bob, even if he gets access, can't capitalize.

The cloud probably needs a password, too :-) I have the password to my password manager stored safely (offline) along with a few e-mail addresses of people I trust and who have enough IT knowledge to know what to do with the mess I'd leave behind (i.e. keep things running by paying bills, transferring income, maybe updating servers). There's a little flaw in my design, though: the password manager can only be accessed if you know the password to any one of my computers. Guess I'll have to stick around a little longer.

I assume all cloud storage services *are* password protected. My 2 cloud accounts are.

Oh, no cloud things for me, I am old school :) . I installed ownCloud on my server, so hat I can easily share files between our computers and smartphones, but that's all.

I've also stored most of this on a solid-state drive. So if you don't trust cloud storage there's that alternative.

As discussed above, in my documents I've delagated a web-savy colleague to help with any technical issues that may arise.
