I have been wanting to run ads around keywords that are while competitive are by no means very pricey. Still, my ads have only run when I bid around $1.20 because that's how much its taking to show up on the first page and thus, attract clicks. And here is the disconnect. How much will a publisher whose site the ad is clicked on generate in revenue? The vast majority of my readers are US based, followed by UK, Canada and Australia.

I only seem to make very little per click these days (much much lower than before) but most of the keywords that show up on my site are ones that you simply cannot get anywhere unless you bid $2 or more.

I really hope things change and Google shows proper ads on my site, not just dump garbage. I am seeing signs of life this month, though in saying that its been poor yesterday and so far today.

to show up on the first page

Are you bidding to show your ads in search? Or are your ad showing as display ads on third party websites?

I don't know if we all have the same "revenue share", but you can check in your Adsense account how much you get. "Account > Account Information".

Also, I assume that Advertisers are not paying the same to be displayed at Google's search pages, and at "our" sites. And there is also the smart pricing system, which affects publishers. (Google certainly not apply this smart pricing to itself)

If you follow the link from Account Info, you get this:

For displaying ads with AdSense for content, publishers receive 68% of the revenue recognised by Google in connection with the service. For AdSense for search, publishers receive 51% of the revenue recognised by Google. These percentages are consistent, regardless of a publisher's geographic location, and are not in any way averaged between publishers. We don't disclose the revenue share for other AdSense products; the revenue share varies for other products due to different costs of developing and supporting these products.

I assume recognised means in the accounting sense.
