This exactly. I've been redesigning one of my bigger sites with PageSpeed at the focus and Adsense ads are the biggest slowdown when i run the tests. If I remove all of the ads, my pages score in the 90s. With ads on, they drop to the 70s. Go figure. So what do you want Google?

The ads should load asynchronously

Blah, blah, blah. AdSense is what slows my site down. I've tested with and without AdSense and they are part of the problem. This is all marketing speak.

Since two years, I've been optimizing every aspect of my site, and it loads ultra fast on mobile devices. However, even if my page is taking only a couple of seconds to show, adsense ads are taking up to 30 seconds to show ! (not all, but at least it takes easily 15 seconds). I don't understand why adsense code needs to make so many requests, back and forth, and at lot of different severs. I don't get it. Can't Google make all its mixture server side, and just returns an iframe with an image with a link ?

When I saw the thread title "Google AdSense and the Need for Page Speed" I started laughing (great post engine, just the title got me :) )

Agree with everything above. As usual, Google itself is the main offender to the very same rules it expects webmaster to follow (asynchronously or not.)

Google promoting good user experience at every corner and aspects, but their sites and systems aren't the best.

Their ads slowing down sites, have noobie backup ads system (white blank space isn't pretty), they recommend to add Analytics Code to the header (most of the time footer is best), they are building tools for webmaster, what must be follow, but at the same time, testing their sites (gmail, adsense, maps, youtube and son) with the same tools, they are getting very #*$!ty score.

Backend, its more complicated and confusing. especially if you have many Google Accounts because some of their products demand a new account.

Huge junk of their ads are pure spam. Youtube is a big spam - you must watch ads for X secnds, or these ads popup on the video + some tags are unclosable. And it's happened for a years. Google report, feedback etc. is same a big joke.

I think Google and their products are good, they are doing good job, but at the same time they demand things, what they haven't done for years and probably wont do in the near future. So me, it's funny, how they are speaking about Good User Experience, but most of the time their user experience is mediocre or below that, especially other products than their Search Engine.

I'm a designer first so whenever I try a new Google product, I feel as though Google products are made "by programmers for programmers" with little thought given to UI.

And each department has no clue what the other is working on. So it makes sense when Pagespeed implies removing Adsense from my site will help me achieve the desired score :)

Wow, Google's making a habit of being a couple years behind the need instead of being in front of it.
