I don't know how I missed this.
Apparently, a lot of others missed it too!
I did a search on WebmasterWorld, and found no mention of this.

[media.net...]

Many questions arise.
1. Was Media.net worth $900 Million US?
2. What is the intent of the new Chinese consortium that made the purchase?
3. Will their primary activity remain at 95% US based? I don't think so.
4. Will our (U.S.) earnings rise or decline?
5. Are we doomed? Or just tripped up a little?
6. Will AdSense enjoy a new surge in popularity?
7. Will Media.net enjoy a new surge in popularity?
8. Are we moving from innovation to conservative bean counters?
9. How long must we wait to find out?
10. What do YOU think?

Cheers.

I saw this news splashed across the top of media.net a few days ago. You are right. I couldn't find anyone here or anywhere else talking about it much so it didn't seem like a big deal. I do see a Forbes and a TechCrunch article now. Maybe a $900 million deal doesn't rate a lot of coverage? Everything seems to be in the billions these days.

From Media.net's acquisition announcement:

Media.net is a large, growing and profitable business with 2015 IFRS revenue of $232M. It currently manages more than $450M of annual advertising revenue via its platform, more than 50 percent of which is generated from mobile users. Ninety percent of Media.net’s total revenue comes from the U.S.

I never trialled their product although from the WebmasterWorld AdSense forum I got the impression they were 'the' alternative so their relatively small size is a surprise.

Um, I posted about this in the media.net thread on August 23. Shows how much attention you all pay to MY posts, ork ork.

[webmasterworld.com...]

I expect there will be little change in the immediate future. I'm expecting to give up on Media.net in the near future anyway because I intend to go all AMP and they're not on board with serving ads that way (I can't even get reliably responsive ads out of them) Longterm, who knows. I expect the Chinese market will eventually be the priority.

Old News :)

I have a meeting with 2 media.net reps next week. "interesting ideas that they’d like to discuss"

Anyway, will see what's up and post back.

@breeks, any interesting updates? Used to run medianet, but the CPMs stagnated over time, so I decided to ditch it alltogether

A couple of new ad types in the works. That's about it.

Had a similar conversation with them yesterday. Promise of new formats, but really just pitching more of the same.

Update to the above: Placements they are suggesting on most sites are uber-aggressive. Definitely need weighing up vs the long term impact.
