AdSence labs offering experiment to reduce number of ads

Anyone else received an email from adsense to day saying - "You’re invited to try 1 new, experimental features in AdSense Labs."

"Based on your site’s content and performance we’ve enabled the following lab for you:
Show fewer ads
Significantly cut down the number of ads your users see in exchange for a negligible drop in revenue. Reducing the number of ads shown on your site can help improve the user experience and could increase the time users spend engaging with your content."

I was surprised they are sugesting I try reducing the number of ads:
"If you'd like to experiment with reducing the number of ads you show your users, turn on this lab. We'll reduce the total number of ads you show by at least 10%, making sure that your revenue decreases by no more than 1%."

I havn't seen As sugest this before and I didn`t think I had too many ads.

I clicked the link to "Get started with showing fewer ads" but annoyingly it still doesn't tell me which of my sites it is talking about - that is a bit of information i would very much like to know.

Anyone else get this email - if so (or even if you didnt) what are your thoughts?

I haven't received the email, but I would suggest that it indicates that there may be ranking gain by improving performance of the site - that will lead to more page views and more revenue longer term.

I got that email yesterday. I ignored it since I do not have excessive ads per page (less than recommended.)

I haven't received the e-mail, maybe because I use no more than one AdSense unit per desktop page and none on mobile pages.

On our site, the 300 x 600 ad unit "pops" much better than the ads that I see on some other sites' cluttered pages that have ads all over the place, and revenue has been strong.

I received it and am trying it. Like others, I don't know which site it pertains to nor has any sort of reporting shown up. I assume it's quite easy to target the bottom 10% eCPM traffic and just serve empty ads to those visitors. Better user experience for those individuals with little loss in revenue.

I decided to go along with this, hoping I would at least learn which site they were refering to, but no information there. I guess this will target "appropriate" ads on any of my sites, but I cannot see at the moment how I may learn anything from this process.

I didn't get the message but I'd be open to that idea. I've thought in the past about removing low paying / low viewed ads but it's tough if you are manually experimenting...

For all the people who decided to go along with Labs advice "Show fewer ads"... Any feedback after more than a month you have try to running it?

It would be nice to hear of you see any positive or negative changes regarding earning, CRT etc... Let us know.

I've run the lab for more than a month. Unfortunately without any reporting associated with the lab it is impossible to tell what, if any, impact the lab had.

As an alternative I've gone into DFP and set an empty house ad to be displayed below a certain CPM rate. At least there I have an idea of how often it's being triggered.
