I have just had another quick look at the Google Ad Placement rules and am astounded at Google's rules (which I do try and follow) in that they now state you should not have more than one Large advert per page, and only 1 AdSense unit on a mobile page [support.google.com ]

When you look at results of a Google search on a phone or a small tablet ALL you see is adverts, so why are they not keeping to their own "rules".

I think you misread it. You can have three ads on mobile, but they need to be spaced such that at no point the user sees more than one ad on his phone screen at a time. I think that's reasonable. As a user, I sure wouldn't like more than one large ad on a page even on a desktop.

The above ad limits also apply to mobile sites. In addition, two or more AdSense ads may not appear on the screen at the same time on a mobile site.
This sounds like a clear cut statement, but it isn't because screen sizes and resolutions vary so much. And then there are adf sizes. two 120x120 ads are one thing, a 300x250 next to a 300x600 is another thing.

I'd rather they stated a minimum pixel space between ads.
