Media.net vs. Adsense

Just about to switch the weight of each on my sites.

I'm having a slow Adsense month (in terms of rpm). I assume there are only a few big-spending advertisers in my niche and they come and go. Evidently they've gone.
I also use media.net. I use them as the extra ads on longer pages (1000 words plus). They're always placed in the bottom half of of these pages.

This month so far, my rpm with media.net is running 83% of adsense. Keep in mind this is with the inferior page positioning.

I never thought I'd have a replacement for Adsense, but it seems I'm destine to move media.net up on my pages.
The code is async(+). With them I don't think you can specify rich media vs. text(-). I'm only using 300x250 ads, but these work out ok on all window sizes of responsive sites(+). I much prefer the media.net "text" ad vs. adsense(+).

Anyone else made the switch?

Not me. i tried them several years ago and they came nowhere near Adsense.

But times do change. It would be good to hear the results of your switch in a month's time.

I've had success with Media.net in the past but the problem is, compared to Adsense, results are extremely inconsistent. The RPM takes very wild swings, more more so relative to Adsense. At least that's my experience with it.

I've tried them a few times. They've always earned crap earnings. Keep in mind they start out strong, with $2.00+ RPM. However that's just for show (to keep you from leaving until they crawl your site) and it will drop shortly thereafter. If you remove them from your website you'll get an automated form letter (that seems personal, but is actually not...I've received it multiple times and when i replied, the person in question responded the same time each way with very poor english.) begging you to add them back. For curiosity's sake i added them back a couple months ago and my RPM was $0 for a month. Upon contacting my rep, he made up some B.S. excuse about optimizing. At this point I gave up. I'm one of the few that does okay with AdSense. I also have a comments system powered by disqus which currently does about 70% of what adsense does...on top of that I ask people to use my amazon affiliate link. My approach generated no complaints and the combination is earning decent revenue given my audience yet none of my readers complain at all. I'm working to introduce a paywall, but haven't as of yet. Regarding media.net, if you were renting a house from someone, would you find it acceptable for them to pay you double rent, then not pay you at all for 4 months? That's the situation I encountered with media.net.

I have had pretty good luck with Mediadotnet.
After AdSense relegated me to the $ht bin in 2014, I switched to Mediadotnet on Jan. 1, 2015.
Sept. CPM was $11. Oct. is about $10.

AdSense top earnings were $600/day in January 2013. It was STRAIGHT downhill from there, to ZERO.
I have no clue why. Well, I do, but I can't talk about it.
Mediadotnet now pays me $50/day, which is more than anyone else will pay me (i believe).

(PM me for a link to my Adsense story, if you want details.)

I was seriously looking at switching to MdN. Broadway mentioned about using MdN on the same page as Adsense? Is this allowed now and I'm just behind the times again!? I thought originally Adsense's terms specifically said something like 'no other context based ads were allowed on the same page' as Ads. MdN is context based isn't it? If it's allowed I will definitely be texting it out on my longer (100K+) pages as well.

MikeNoLastName, you need to check that for yourself to be 100% certain.

But my understanding is that other ads (context or whatever) are fine by the G TOS as long as they can't be confused with G ads.

I have seen media net ads lately so can't comment if they could be confused with G ads.

My Google rep didn't say anything about Medianet when I showed them the new layout in our last meeting. I would assume that it should be fine with G then.
As for confusing AdSense with MdN, there is no way to tell the difference when it comes to display ads, but text ads do look so much different, so there's absolutely no way that you will mix them up.

My MdN experience has been no that great, especially since they don't really give you a detailed reporting. I'm about to set up DFP, and I'm missing some metrics I'd need for the report on my end.

CPMs are 50-70% less than I see in AdSense
