I was just wondering if anyone still uses these things:

<!-- google_ad_section_start —>
<!-- google_ad_section_start(weight=ignore) —>
<!-- google_ad_section_end —>

I've still got them throughout my code, but over the years — with bits of code being added here and there -- they have got all out of place.

if they still work i'm thinking of redoing them, but i was just wondering if anyone still uses them

I took it out when they declared it "obsolete"

I'm like you londrum, I have some in my code but haven't even thought about the tags in years. I didn't know it was obsolete.

And it shouldn't be obsolete, it should be supported and work well.

A couple of the sites in my portfolio "generate" jokes & quotes, and their URLs describe that. Nobody coming there cares about electrical generators which Adsense seems to think is relevant. "duh"

Given the improvements in our technology to more accurately match ads with your content and users, the section targeting feature from our early days is now obsolete. This means that there's no longer any need for you to implement section targeting in order to help us determine which parts of your content are important.

"Improvements in technology...no longer any need....yeah, that's the ticket!"

I have the same problem with image generators and code generators. I have a few domains with generator in the name too, pretty much killed by ads for industrial electronics and cheap chinese knock off power generators.
I've had to use some creative keyboard characters to confuse the bots and get around their "improved targeting" on a few sites.

I'm with you. Without a very compelling reason, it is far too big a job to remove.

Unlike AdSense itself, that stuff wasn't a clip inside one single SSI file.

BBEdit, or something similar, will do it in five seconds for you. It can do a find and replace on all the files in a directory

Yes I can use my trusty [now old] NoteTab Pro 4.9 "search and replace" as well.

more accurately match ads with your content

They actually think they've improved targeting? <boggle>
