On which sites are my ads running?

I haven't paid attention to my AdSense account for YEARS.

Now I notice payments increasing so I decided to revisit my account. I apparently created a number of ads without identifying them in a way that would tell me on which sites they are appearing.

Is there some way within the AdSense account interface to discover on which site(s) a particular ad is running? I've tried visiting my html sites and searching in the code, with no luck.

It's not very often we hear that pleasing news.

Personally, I would firstly sit down and work out how I would want to see my reports presented in a meaningful way.

Then I would go to MyAds -> URL Channels and set things up again by sites. Alternatively, you could set up "Custom channels".

I can't remember how I originally did all this jazz years ago, so likely you will need to read up on it in the AdSense Help section somewhere. Another kind soul might offer more specific assistance.

IanCP,

Pleased to be the bearing of glad tidings!

Yes, I would love to go back and set things up in a more orderly fashion. However, under URL Channels I see no way to link the ad_slot number to the site or sites on which it is used.

Anyone?

Of course I meant "bearer of glad tidings."

First of all, if you go into Performance reports, you should be able to view it by sites?

You don't have to link URL Channels, it happens automatically, if you create them.

However, if you want to create CUSTOM channels, you can do that and just add them to your ad units to denote which site. Each ad unit can have (I think it's still) 5 channels attached to it.

We have set up a page on the Ad Traffic Quality resource center to help publishers better understand traffic on their sites. Other posts in this thread are infact correct, and this could serve as a good starting point for you Kelly if you need additional help in segmenting traffic.

Thanks netmeg and Sheqel, but Performance Reports doesn't give the info I'm looking for. Or if it does I haven;'t found it.

I can see how well various sites are performing (Performance > Sites) and I can see how well various ad units are performing (Performance > Ad Units), but I can't figure out how to connect a SPECIFIC ad to the site or sites on which it is displaying.

For example, I have an ad unit called "Top Rich Media" which seems to be doing okay. But I have long since forgotten on which site I placed it. I have three ad units like this.

Ah! Sometimes I also run into these kinds of problems.

My solution, and this depends entirely how you manage your sites on you PC, is to pick something specifically unique to that ad code, and in my HTML Text Editor I go to "Search Disk -> Search Directory/Options".

Example:

Search [without quotes] "brown widgets"
Search Directory/Options c:\my-site\*.htm [in my case]

Mostly 99.9% of the time I can pick up every instance.

I use NoteTab Pro, and that feature along with "Search and Replace" - it has paid for itself 1,000's times over.

No doubt other similar text editors would have the same thing.

[Added] - If it lives inside a Server Side Include file on my sites, I search either of these as well:

c:\my-site\*.txt
c:\my-site\*.shtml

Heh! Much of my set up is 100 years old. But works!

You probably want custom channels then. But it won't help you retroactively.

Hmm, my last post doesn't seem to have made it through.

At any rate I have begun the tedious process of searching all my sites for the ad_slot code and have discovered one ad unit that appears on two different sites!

In this process, I discovered what appears to be "old" ad code with a "google_ad_channel" code that is not listed on my AdSense backend. Google offers some advice on "Update old ad code to the new one" which states: "If you have existing ad units you'd like to keep using..."

The old code still seems to be serving up ads, but am I getting credit for any clicks? The wording seems to suggest that the answer is "No."

Anyone know?
