what I can tell the CTR is still the issue down at least 40% people just don't respond to the ads
Try experimenting your ad placement and color schemes again and again until your CTR improves. I always under estimate that rule but I always find it effective. Nevertheless that is the only thing we have total control of.
I've been testing out Chitika and the actual ad blocks don't perform well, but "Chitika Linx" is doing great on two of my sites.
I'm hoping that Adsense will send out pay before Christmas like they did last year, it would be great for publishers if they did.
Now we know it: Yes:
Compared to December 2008, my
CTR decreased by 40,7%
EPC increased by 20,0%
Gives 28,8% less eCPM
Additional to the ads in the navigation and below the content,
there are on a few pages also an ad direct in the content area.
Most times a 120x600 or 160x600 left of the content,
when the content requires less space.
The CTR of the content placement decreased by 92%
In the other direction, it had been 12 times higher than this month.
Highest ever in CTR was December 2005
Here hat been the CTR of the content placement far above average CTR of the other ad placements.
Now it's just average.
including removing AdSense from low-performing pages. How has that affected your total AdSense earnings?
Every month we run the reports to show which pages are low-paying and we take the AdSense ads off those pages. Within 24 hours our overall earnings go up about 5%.
We've just started a test to put the low paying pages back in for a week to try to put some exact numbers to it.
My average CTR has been climbing lately, and eCPM is up a bit, too. Since my topic has nothing to do with the Christmas-shopping season or end-of-the-year business buying, I'm guessing the uptick reflects an improvement in the economy. (It's only an uptick, though--it's nothing that justifies breaking out the Champagne or even the ginger ale.
My experience as well, it's been a much better month, I'm wondering if Google's recent decision to start offering targeted ads based on users' preferences had something to do with it (despite the negative reaction of a lot of users in here when it was first announced).
My feelings exactly. eCPM today was one of highest ever but CTR just isn't there. I've talked to several of my past and present clients in small businesses lately and nearly all of them say their business environment sucks at the moment...
Most of them aren't getting clicks on their ads or calls from old media advertising. Seems like everyone is hunkering down and trying to get through. I think also (in USA) many folks are beginning to understand that cost of doing business is going to skyrocket over the next few years as we move to a redistribution of wealth and expansion of social services. I'm thinking of taking EU language lessons so I can keep up with the trend.
It's like someone else posted - "it's like someone clicked on a switch" - I mean sometimes I check my sites just to see if my Adsense ads are still on there!
I mean its good to see that others are getting clicks (and earnings) just to know that everything is still "operational"!
In fact, I've just checked and it's been my best-ever AdSense Xmas Eve and Xmas Day since it was launched...I'd better breathe in for a difficult weekend then?
My overall clicks are down however EPC is right at the top end of excellent.
With only just half of Google Xmas Day gone and it traditionally being my worst day of the year, I've already earned more than last weekend and double that of the whole of Xmas Day 2008!
Well "woopeedoo" for you Husky. ;)
I am swimming in the toilet right now. With the whole of December a topsy turvy roller coaster and past three quarters of Google Christmas Day, I am at a measly $3.36. Everything across the board is down - impressions, eCPM, CTR. The 20th to 23rd were fantastic days though. I guess someone at the plex discovered they were paying me too much and decided to let out the helium from my balloon.
Looking forward to January.
Merry Christmas anyway everyone!
Well "woopeedoo" for you Husky. ;)
Outta da blue I can tell U! Lol
I've been watching the metrics sliding towards Xmas Day as usual then Santa kicked in Xmas Eve and Day...bizarre...I bet today's a downer with all the sales starting in the UK.
i hope it will recover soon.
Normally nothing much happens until the first week of January when many return to work. In years gone by there also seemed to be some sort of SERPs boost at the end of the first week or so of January. I wonder if that will happen again?
