Online advertising spending in the UK has overtaken television expenditure for the first time, a report has said.
[news.bbc.co.uk...]
Just how many references were there to Google advertising in the lunchtime news programmes? Loads and loads...
E-mail campaigns, classified adverts, display ads and search marketing are all classed as online advertising.
So spam is included, ebay listing, craigslist or whatever similar exists in the UK, as well as SEO spending, is all bundled together. It is by far not all "adwords" of "doubleclick" like advertising.
I wonder if that means they do the same on the TV side: e.g.: do they include product placement lobbying in the movie industry into account whenever a movie airs on TV ?
Maybe in the UK, but not in the USA.
Precisely the significance...it has taken but 10 years for online advertising to overtake TV.
What odds would you have got on that 10 years ago? Well, that's for those of us allowed to gamble:-)
The UK has a significant and sophisticated English language advertsing market, which country next? It will be interesting to see, anyone prepared to guess China or Japan?
