I have been reading about best practices and Adsense Hit map on how to increase CTR. However, most of them are old, tried and not working today.
There has been days years ago when people reported CTRs like 8 and even 12 percent. This can happen provided the ads are very relevant.
Now, we started to see more relevant ads, however CTR is below two percent.
300-250 is used above the fold in a very visible area. Background color is the same as the article body background. No borders.
Under articles we use either link units or 300-250 size.
Yet, the CTR is not rising.
What has worked for you? What are the latest best practices that work in this market?
We are not using images. We have felt that they are not working for us.
Setup a adwords account yourself and learn the system. Target the content network, see what advertisers are striving for.
It's not a accident that the default adsense color is bright blue.
If you were the adsense algo where would you send the highest paying ads?
Site 1 has 2000 clicks per day at 200 conversions
Site 2 has 300 clicks per day at 200 conversions
Which site would get the best inventory?
Which site would advertisers get into bidding wars over?
Im not a newbie, Ive been using adsense since it came out of beta on multi million page view a month websites to niche 10k pageview a month websites. These are just my findings after tens of thousands of hours of work and research.
What folks do with it is up to them.
Judging from my competition, several must have read this thread. 3 of them are bright blue after 6 years of matched.
This may or may not help you, example would be if your traffic is just low quality when it comes to conversions. Then you would need to focus on morphing your content more.
- Medium fontsize
- Old-style blue links
- 336x280 ad unit in-content
- 728x15 link unit below the menu
Nothing new, nothing exciting, but it works wonders for me.
I think SERPS play a part in CPC.
I have no proof of that however EPC is definitely influenced by clicker location.
What I do know for certain is that my new blog pages are delivering a fourfold increase in CTR v my conventional web site pages.
Whether this CTR will continue as they become more popular with more visitors I'll keep you informed.
Initally, you have nice blended in ads in all the high CTR areas. Let your stats prove that your CTR is at a decent level. At this stage, earnings per click may be low.After that, you make it painfully obvious to the users that the ads are ads. You put a border around them, write "Advertisements" on top etc. etc. CTR should drop now.
