Big difference between Adsense clicks and what Statcounter suggests

On one of my sites I am seeing a big difference between the number of clicks reported in my Adsense account for this particular site I have and the number of exit clicks Statcounter suggests. When i look at the Statcounter exit activity I am seeing a far greater number of people clicking the google ad than what Adsense is reporting. I have an excellect realtionship with Adsense and have been with them for quite a few years now, but on this particular site I am seeing far fewer clicks reporeted by them than What Statcounter exit click activity suggesting. HOwever, I may not be up to speed with exxactly what Statcounter exit activity is supposed to show, but from my understanding it shows what people are clicking on to exit the site, but like I say, I may not be totally right on this point. If this is in fact what it is then the number clicks of adsense showing is totally different to what the adsese is reporting. For example, if I am getting 50 clicksfrom adsense on this iste, the Statcounter is showing around 90-110.

Basically, what I feel is that I am losing around half of my revenue from this site because adsense is not reporting all clicks.

Now, I can assure you one thing, none of the clicks rre being discounted because they are from the same source or from bad sources. My site is a high quality site and the what the Statcounter reports is that the clicks are coming from completely different users from various countries, but mostly from the US but also from places like Canada, the UK as well as few from other parts of the world. This has been happening from a few weeks now.

What might the problem be? I tried replacing adsense with Chitika, but unfortunately Chitika does not serve the best ads in the world and only serves ads to US and Canada search users. Also, I cannot use YPN since I am in the UK.

I was hoping YPN would be international by now and MSN Pubcenter, but they are both stuck in the gutter.

I really like StatCounter and use it on a lot of sites. But I don't necessarily think they can adequately track AdSense clicks with that exit activity.

The reason I think that is that I haven't yet found any other stats program or analytics program or hack or workaround that does. And I've looked.

It seems to me that your first task is to learn exactly how Statcounter determines whether a click has occurred and whether that counting method is the same as Google's. For example, Google no longer charges advertisers for clicks on an ad's background or body text, since such clicks may be accidental. If Statcounter is simply counting "exit clicks," rather than "valid clicks," it stands to reason that its numbers will be different (and higher) than Google's.

This is what the Statcounter shows (or something along these lines) GoogleDoubleclick--Pub----, etc. I am sure those are people who are cliking on the adsense to exit the site, but like I say, I could be wrong. As far as I know, Statcounter would only count if someone actually cliks on an ad and not simply hover over it.

Good point. Maybe people are cliking on some part of the ad other than link on the ad.

We have our own click tracking and it's not uncommon to see a 2x difference in clicks we see and what AdSense reports. Usually it is correlated with the type of traffic the site gets. The more the traffic comes from natural search sources, the closer the ratio is to 1:1.

FYI, UK pubs can get access to PubCenter through Yieldbuild.

Exit activity and AdSense clicks are not mutually inclusive.

Exit just means they left your site which hardly indicates clicking on AdSense.

Moreover, if one is using Ad Manager, the ads can be set to open in a new window anyway.
