Google Adsense Ads being blocked

Well known anti virus software is now able to ban Adsense adverts

Sorry about this however the Adsense adverts are now showing with the ad blocker enabled.

Has anyone an idea of what is happening and why Google adverts sometimes show and then don't show?

Original message below

As of today I have noticed that all Google Adsense adverts on my websites are blank - due to a well known internet security application blocking them when the Banner Ad Blocker is enabled (the default setting). This did not happen before today so I guess Adsense publishers have more problems to overcome - if that is possible, and potentially a lot less earnings.

I hate pop ups and other types of forced adverts however it looks really stupid with blank advert space in areas of the web page when the adverts are blocked - and many people probably do not have a clue why there is empty space showing.

I think it is getting to the point where if someone blocks adverts you should be able to block them viewing your content with a little message appearing letting them know the reason why they are not allowed access to the content on the website which takes a lot of time and effort to create plus the cost of hosting.

Or am I day dreaming yet again?

This has hapened a few times in the past, and for some reason or another Google ads end up being excempt (make of that what you will)

I remember my ISP, NTL world (now Virgin Media)actualy provided software bundled with modem drivers that did just this, showed a red box where the advert would have been. I always get suspicious when an isp does something like this. Are they actualy proving a useful service, or saving bandwidth?

The software that you are using does it block ads by default, or is this something the user has to activate?

Mack.

I've had issues several times where Trend Micro was blocking the ads, but then they would come back a few hours later. I emailed them asking what was up, and got a snippy reply back to the effect that Trend Micro thinks advertising is garbage and they are actually doing me a favor by not showing them. (Can't quote exact email here)

Eventually I could see them again, so I didn't press it. Interesting response tho, and one I will definitely remember when my current subscription runs out.

Hi Mack & Netmeg

The internet security software I have blocks "banner" ads by default - however it had never blocked Adsense - I don't think it is the anti-virus / security software that did this (the Adsense adverts show fine now) I actually noticed it on a site I am currently developing last night - UK early morning infact, when one advert space stopped showing adverts / while another one on the same page did (different size). The same advert code (text/image) showed adverts fine on other pages - so I assumed something was blocking the what I assumed was an image ads that may have been showing.

I have nothing against seeing adverts - the only reason I have the default "block banner" adverts on is to see how it affects my affiliate advertising on my website. It actually made me take the decision to stop using banner adverts on my website as probably 20% of all computers using anti-virus / internet security software may be using the software I have. So what is the point in delivering advertising that gets blocked.

Anti-virus better do their real job right.
