We really appreciate the work you all put into building great sites. However, we feel that gift-giving is not the most appropriate gesture this year given the current global economic climate.

What are your thoughts about Google canceling Christmas Gifts for Publishers?
Besides, other than the the laptop toolkit with the mouse, USB hub, and all those cool USB toys, the rest of the gadgets sent other weren't worth the postage to send IMO. I appeciated and used the crap out of all those USB toys until the mouse finally died, but it was put to good use, loved it.

One of my customers generates six-figure profit year after year. I take their team out for a nice christmas party (including small gifts) at a good restaurant every year, and this year will be not different. It's nothing spectacular, but it's nice. They like it (even more since the company has stopped paying for christmas parties).
So, yes, it makes sense to "gift-give".

yes, we are giving unexpected bonuses to more than a dozen of the contractors that work with us. some of the bonuses will be sizable.
i dont care that google isnt sending out a tchatchke, but i hope they redirect the savings toward hastening the roll out of adsense-analytics integration - that is by far what we want the most.
On the other hand - I had not much use for most of the gifts anyway. The picture frame did not work. And I accidently destroyed the 2GB USB card with a scissor. However I still use the small USB mouse from the laptop kit.
We typically give our best clients some good really nice chocolate.

If they're doing it, as ASA claims, because it is not appropriate, I think it is a good idea. After all they are letting a lot of employees/contract workers go. It would be the proper thing to do.
However if they are doing it to pacify, fat cat, large share, who only care about profits, stock holders not sure if I agree.

Yeah, we are still giving gifts. And, we still call it "Christmas" not 'holiday'.

Sure, suspend the publisher gift giving, but offset the un-giving with a special "related gift" to a charitable organization.
I think many folks would appreciate a "don't give it to me but, please, give it to them" approach.
Just wrote my first check, in a long time, to a certain charity and it's not that I have more to give this year than last. It's more like I suspect others may not be giving as much as they have in the past - at a time when the need is greatest.

Makes sense to me. Maybe the savings will keep a few Google contractor jobs from drying up in the current economic drought.
Now we know that type of communication is possible. I think that's a gift, however small, in itself.
Now we can have the hope that that type of communication is possible on more substantial issues.

Yes. The last one, just as many companies that are struggling are.
I never received a gift, and probably wouldn't again this year. I would have thought my longevity and impressions and monthly revenue would have qualified me, but I guess I'm a lot smaller potatoes than I thought.
97% of Google income is from online advertising. I assume the vast bulk of that is adWords.
That income generated $5 billion in net profits -- after all expenses, including R&D, including taxes.
That pure profit is approximately $100,000,000 per week.
Didn't recipients of the GoogleGift last year (GoogleGiftees) received a charitable gift card of $100 to be donated to a cause at the direction of the GoogleGiftees?
I don't know how many GoogleGiftees there were last year, but that's a sizable chunk of change not going to charity.
I never even got an eCard from Google. Not even an eCard. How much would that cost?

just to be clear, google is considering to let go employees to keep profit margins high and to satisfy wallstreet. they are still making money hand over fist.
