What I mean is better 1 cent than nothing. Just imagine 1 million clicks of that 1 cent could mean $10,000 in value. Of course it can take a loooong time to accumulate those number. :-P
Patient...Patient...Patient is the keyword in this case.
Unfortunately there's no reliable benchmark to compare your site to - the range of earnings we see on different channels on one of our sites is huge (some sections have eCPMs over 100 times more than others!).
The only benchmarks you can reliably use are comparing AdSense to other monetisation options, but the ease of implementation and huge number of advertisers means it's not often that you'll find a better solution (if you don't have a very recognisable brand or huge traffic).
Augmenting your income by looking at the new banner networks that seem to be getting better CPMs by targeting more is probably a good idea (again this requires you to be in the right vertical and have enough traffic to get one of the premium networks to take you on) - you could at least speak to a few and see what you need to aim for.
My problems seem to be 1. non-english. 2, too many "useless" readership, they don't have desire to buy anything. 3. too many topics that google ads often don't fit my website. 4. and put focus on how to increase the number of users, instead of attracting useful readers.
