one of the most frustrating things that i've found whilst working on my site is the amount of hurdles you have to overcome. I don't mean technological ones, or learning ones, i mean the amount of money that you make every day.

it took me about a year just to reach a steady dollar a day. granted, i probably launched the site a bit early whilst it didn't have much info on it - which affected the amount of traffic i got from search engines - but then it took another six months to reach a steady 2-3 dollars a day.

my site is pretty big now (1000 pages listed in the index), all with good original content, but i still consider a good day to be 4 dollars.

is this how it is... in your experience? do you have to fight for a rise in every single dollar? or did you suddenly overcome a hurdle and see it jump to 10 dollars, 50 dollars and 100 in a short while?

Suddenly overcame a hurdle. You can't expect search engines to carry you, you need to find multiple ways to expose your site to the masses.

my site is pretty big now

Size is nothing:-))

How much traffic do you have?

What is your widget genre?

Be honest to yourself, some sectors pay almost nothing and it also depends where you live whether USD 2-3 is substantial to daily life or it is realistically one beer!

At 1000 pages and with that small income, stop expanding and start consolidating. Pick one subject area that the site covers and attempt to improve it so that it is the best on the web. If you can get into one niche area covered by your web, the others come more easily.

Read through the hints and tips on webmasterworld and apply them to your existing content.

"some sectors pay almost nothing"

Agreed. 1,000 pages? I would have given up on 50 pages with that kind of money. Time to think about another industry. I've done well with a single site that's made it to the point of saturation content wise. 5-6 cents per visitor. Not much else to do with it, or maybe I'll shelve it for a year and come back to it.

I mentioned in a post within the past year, find an industry where you have to get dirty and sweaty to learn about it. Hard laboring work still pays - even on the web. Most people trying to make a buck on the web are strapped to home offices and computers. It's all they know.

For months I've been thinking of a new angle and it was right in my face. I looked at the competition (SERPS) and was amaized how wide open it was. Comparing word tracker results versus my current site, interest in this industry is five fold! But I have a feeling I may see only half to one third of the five cents.

I'll report on my progress. Time frame to get this site cranking? 2-3 years.

I agree with nomis5, just pick up your favourite area and concentrate on it and maybe add complemnt materials to that topic.

I started very well with 30$ per day in my first few days with AdSense, but now is being down, month by month, since those old good days.

Now I will use my current material and I will complementing with additional content, in order to give more "body" to my site.

Of course this time I will not depend of AdSense completely.
