Two Sites Sharing Content. What is the Best Way to Go Here?

I couldn't decide in which forum to post it so I posted it in my favorite one:)

Moderator: You probably will want to move it to some other forum.

Ok I've been having this dilemma recently. I own two sites that share a similar subject, although completely different content. But now I have written something that fits to both of them. What should I do?

a) Just put a link to the other website (I don't want to do that because I'd like visitors to stay at the current website)

b) Heavily modify the article so that hopefully I don't get caught in spam filter (I don't want to do that because it is time-consuming and would give unsatisfactory results in the end I think)

c) Put exactly the same content without worrying.

d) Put exactly the same content plus noindex in html or/and in htaccess?

If we were to go the c) way the question that arises in my mind is: when would Google began lower my rankings because of duplicate content?

What would you do in my shoes?

I would publishde the same content on both websites.

A/ Publish it in your main website
B/ Wait for the article to be indexed by Google
C/ Once indexed, publish it in the second website but place links to the original website above and below the article so that Google can easily track the original source.

I don't you will get penalised by doing this... Unless you abuse of this technic.

This is what I would do, but may be I am wrong.

You're publishing it for the benefit of your users, correct? Publish it on one site as you normally would publish anything, and publish it on the other site with a robots meta tag of "NOINDEX" on it. So Google will only see one copy of the page, but your users on each site will have the benefit of it. Shouldn't hurt you at all.

What I would do is pick one of the two sites where the article seems most relevant, and publish the whole article there. On the other site, I would paraphrase some of the content, and basically make it a descriptive paragraph, along with a link back to the whole article on your other site.

There are a few benefits by doing this. First, there's no chance of being penalized for duplicate content. Next, your article will get two positions on a search (presumably the whole article will rank higher). But best of all, some of your viewers will have the chance to discover your other website. If you publish the same article at both sites, your vistors will have no reason to visit the other site.
