1-How often you come on Webmasterworld.com (ever thought about how much time you spend and waste on here? sure you can learn a lot and a lot from here, but I noticed myseld, I was coming here way too much, at the expense of working on my website and creating some quality content and improving things.
Just ask yourself: how many hours do you spend here per day, then multiply by 30 . I am sure that is at least 50 hours for some of you per month. If you cut that in half, you have 25 extra hours to spend on your website and built content.
2-How much time you spend checking yourAdsense earnings: this is another personal experience and from what I have seen from others. Up to November of 2007, I used to check my Adsense earnings almost every hour, wasting at least a total of 1.5-2 hours daily. No more. I have now cut it to only 3 times per day (twice per weekend) I am really not missing much if I don';t check it hourly. I have been saving a lot of time by checking my Adsense earnings less often.
In total, the above two changes have been saving me no less than 2 hours a day, which is about 60 hours month, and even more sometimes. Not suprisingly, this reduction in time spent doing these two things, has been negatively proportional to my Adsense earnings, because I have been able to create so much new content. My earnings are up by about 15-35% over the last 3 months (January was my best month in almost a year)
Just trying to help!
Whether your website is a hobby or a business, there's nothing wrong with taking time for other things. Granted, if you're spending too much time doing those other things -- then you're probably having a hard time supporting that hobby/business.
I think "balance" is a good word to use for this.
The power of 2:
- Upgrading my ram to 2 Gig maxed my productivity.
- Having 2 broadband connections is amazing too (if you insist on just one, test for one month a double speed connection)
- If you can work on 2 computers at the same time go for it, otherwise consider 2 screens.

I see what you mean asas111 I used to spend all day on webmasterworld reading everything however back then I had an employer and I don't mind spending all that time "researching". I do agree that by spending less time reading random posts in webmasterworld has also helped me make 4 times as much as when I worked for my employer.
However that being said I do still like to read the news about google, yahoo and msn, adsense, affiliates and other things that could help me make a lot more.

can't I'm afraid... but I CAN handle 3 frying pans at once. Does that count?
i suppose he's got a point. the very fact that we are posting in a post about how much time we are wasting posting posts suggests that maybe we should get back to work.
okay.okay. back to work.
but I agree with OP. Why just last night I was thinking to myself that I spend way too much time checking my stats, looking at DCs and fretting about my eCPM. Time that would probably be better spent building content and driving traffic.
cut out sleep... that is seven hours a day right there that you gain
Sleep...What's that?
An easier method would be to remove AdSense altogether then no worries:-)

I was going to reply, but then I would be just as bad...
How can I get back to work when I have to keep reading the new replies to this thread?!
Exactly! While its all off topic im thinking about going down to Tesco to buy some sausages, im hungry.
Some said a good job takes 90% of time for planning and 10% for implementation. Not sure about this particular ratio, but definitely agree with putting an accent onto planning.
Still, human’s life is so intuitive, rather than “written” in advance. It’s enough to catch a bad flu, or be a parent volunteer on your child’s field trip – and a day or more is gone.
I agree about balance. That is so hard to achieve. I believe that 5% or less are those that are capable of working it out. The rest struggles in this or that way.
Sometimes, being like a Swiss watch hurts, while in other situations saves lives.
Now we are back to balance…
…and yes, cutting on one side will benefit the other side, whatever that is.
I agree with asas111, and about beer and meet too, I love them. :)

Sleep is what you do at work when the boss isn't looking.

Two things that are sure to increase your Adsense earnings (could varry, depending on the user)
For me the two biggest time wasters are games on Yahoo and videos on You Tube. OTOH when I start working on my website I spend several hours a day working on it for a few months until I get burned out, then it's back to Yahoo.
...I don't regret one minute spent on this forum.
That's the way I feel as well.
This topic has some pish taking and some genuinely useful time management tips mixed in...
Damn - overstayed my allotted WebmasterWorld time by 26 secs....
