Entering IP's into competitive ad filter to free up valuable space

to block MFA's with single ip and multiple domain names

One of the ugliest and most persistent MFA that infests my site has always operated under multiple domain names each containing keywords related to my niche. Each domain name takes the visitor to different but similar pages that are titled using the relevant keyword.

However, I have recently found that when I tracerouted many of these domains, that the resulting ip address is always exactly the same which could be because they all point to the same server. I was thinking that maybe I could just add the ip address and free up much needed filter space by clearing out the domain names.

Has anybody else tried this with any success? Thanks in advance

This is a very good idea.

Will try to identify the ip address of MFA in my site and put the IP address in my filter.

Scurra,

I LOVE your idea as it would help me getting rid of some of the ugliest advertisers, but I am afraid that your approach won't work, because Google certainly filters by target URL mentioned in the ad, not by target IP address. While for the domain name system both are closely related, I do not see such relation in the Google system, unless the Google developers did a match in their database =and= integrated that into the filter system.

Given the current state of the Filter and the Preview Tool, I don't think this will work. Then again, if it works, please let us know!

mzanzig,
You are probably correct, however interestingly enough I have found that the filter has accepted ip's. I have tried this on a very limited basis so I cant's say with certainty if it has worked in blocking the advertiser. Although I have not seen the blocked ad appear on my site, it may well have been a coincidence.
