Will the elections this Tuesday affect traffic much at all?

I would say its likely a good day if your site is about politics or something related. But for the rest of us, we may take a small hit but I doubt it will be significant.

Traffic has been down last few days for me, I can't think of anything other than the election. Today is quite low. I have no other explanation, even though I doubt my site visitors would have any special interest in politics.

I don't think it will have a profound effect.

More folks will probably be seeking election results via the web, but it shouldn't cause great decreases in overall traffic.

For most people voting will be like a short errand, a small minority will have to wait in line for a bit.

Except for election officials it will be like any other day.

If there are cliffhangers in important races a few more people will be following the returns. Those who do so online may surf to your site afterwards...

>>>Not everyone in the world is voting!

Hmmm... That's true, but this is a valid topic to discuss because what happens in the US may impact an English language website.

The US is the single largest country in terms of traffic in the English language. If your site is in the English language, then what happens in the US is important to take note of because there may be an impact, even if it's a burp. ;)

As far as the elections having an effect, I think probably not, they're still two days away. If any events in the US have an effect a better bet may be the NFL or the New York Marathon, although the Breeders Cup is one of the horse racing season's major events and it happenened today, Sunday.

Were it not for work duties, I would have dragged the family to the track for a bit of racing fun.

I don't think any of the above has had an effect on my traffic, not more than any other weekend has an effect.

I've already voted as have tens of thousands of others here where early voting is available (early voting is setting records for voter turnout). I doubt that voting will have much of an impact. However, Tuesday's late night hours and the following morning may be a different story due to the folks checking out the results.

In November of 2004 (the last big US election) I had a bump in traffic. Normally November is a bad month. I'd say that it's not really about people voting but about people going on line for results. It wouldn't surprise me that for this reason there would be a slight up turn in US traffic.

More likely to see a slight (very slight) bump in all markets than a decline in any!

Any event like "Elections" tends to get more people on the net. Increase net traffic and you have a chance of increasing your traffic (regardless of subject matter)......they won't only look at election results, they search for other stuff as well!

It's things like ThanksGiving and Christmas that kill most of the "regular" traffic, events when people want to spend time with humans instead of computers!

Oh yeah - forgot it was the US elections. I'll hope for a slight increase in earnings, as people, bored with nothing on TV but elections, flock to the internet ;-)
