One page of real content will do more good than 100 pages of "filler material".

Let say I wrote about a deep sea fishing trip I took using a local charter boat company. This article had had lots of pictures and helped people decide if they would like to go fishing when they arrive.

Will I get adsense ads from hotels, rental cars in the area where I whet fishing? Or do I have to explicitly discuss hotels, local transportation etc?

Several factors come into play, among them:

- What Google thinks the page is about (fishing, boats, travel, etc.), which is likely to be determined by keywords on the page but also--sometimes--on the the theme or topic of the site as a whole.

- What kinds of ads are available for the keywords that Google hones in on.

For the kind of article that you describe, I'd guess that Google would tend to show ads for things like fishing charters and fishing boats rather than ads for hotels and car rentals. The best way to find out is to test: Join the network, put the code on your pages, and see what you get.

If you have a troll on Google, you will find a number of gizmos that will show you the ads that would appear on your page.

There is even a nifty Firefox extension that you can add to your FF. Look for an AdSense preview extension on the FF site.

You'd probably get ads for fishing supplies and fishing trips too.

drakke, I have a travel guide under my main domain. I do put pictures of every trip I make and over the course of time, the travel component is slowly adding to the overall income. The ads I see are mainly about Hotels, free trips, travel guide about other countries and regions, airline ticket deals, travel maps, resorts, package tours, luxary travel etc...

Drakke, you can use section targeting to help assist Google in showing the ads that you feel would be relevent.

I find the AdSense preview tool almost useless.

It just doesn't work accurately enough, and the first time you use it on a page, it will show effectively random advertisers.

I've never had a problem with the preview tool showning ads relevant to my page content - sometimes not the bit of content that should have been the focus, but nevertheless relevant.

What I don't know is what Ads are actually showing (as opposed to the examples provided by the preview tool) on my overseas pages. Think I'll need to increase the air fare budget to go find out.

If you want to see how your site looks from a US viewpoint, just use a free proxy site to view your page. Most web proxies seem to use servers based in the US.
