CPM networks survey

Interesting, but missing Adsense

I got an email from Tribal Fusion asking why I had cut back their inventory so dramatically. Well, the short answer is TF is crap and Adsense beats it every which way (anyone for a Smiley, Screensaver or free ipod ad?)

I was sent a link to a survey of CPM networks showing the 'leading nature' of TF:
[adotas.com...]

Sadly, Adsense was not included. But here is the most astounding thing I found. TF were bragging how they in the top 3. But most times the results barely managed to get passed 5.5, sometimes cracking a 6 and change. On a scale of 1to10, 5.5 is average.

Interestingly, I agree with the rankings relative to the other networks, but compared to Adsense? No competition. Also, for anyone moaning about Google's cut in Adsense, TF take a huge 45% of revenue, and offer as low as $0.05CPM.

TF is my second revenue generator, after AdSense. It's good money, and I block all smileys, screensavers and free iPod ads. I get Amex, Computer City, Microsoft, Verizon Wireless, Vodafone (UK), O2 (UK) and others.

It all depends in what category your site is.

Everywhere else in the world (we can geo-target) we show AdSense Referals in native language - this is absolutely a waste of CPU cycles though. In the last month we decided to go back to an old thing - banner exchange with Microsoft's BCentral (they've changed names now). For those thousands of impressions from countries where we don't have a chance of selling ads we get 50% of our own banner impressions somewhere else. Not terribly great, but do you know how many impressions you get from India alone? And from those Nigerian scammers trying to post in the forums?
