I think the problem is that the same ads are shown over and over again to the same users.
Say it was new users every day it would be ok to show the same ads but since its the same users all the time I would like to see a much lager varity in ads. Avtully I would much rather see a big varity of new ads on random subjects rather than the same content specific ads run over and over again for the same users.
Its like the algorithm only takes the content into account and does not takes into account its the same group of people that are exposed.
Any thoughts on the issue?
One way to combat ad blindness is to insert an interactive game in that block that shows from time to time.
That will get your viewer's attention and once they get accustomed to going there to check it out, their eyes become programmed to look often ; )
Next I am going to check whether changing a few colours changes the ctr as well.
Your problem may be that you have the same users hanging around and not enough NEW users clicking your ads. What you need is to cultivate guests coming in to your site and clicking out on the ads. The solution to that, imo, is to better optimize your site by removing links to member profiles from the home page etcetera and other seo tweaks.
Then you need to get down and edit your post titles like this:
HELP!
I'm A NEWB!
AN INTRODUCTION
WHAT IS THIS?
ANYBODY SEEN THIS BEFORE? Etcetera
All keyword poor non-descriptive post titles should be rewritten. You'll get more visitors and hopefully more clicks.
I had a new user a month ago calling himself tomcat (its in another language but I have translated it) and he has been posting alot and the other users are referring to him.
Now 90 pct of the ads on the front page are related to pets. I renamed him yesterday to tomc_at (with his approval ofcourse). It hasent helped yet. But its the same 10-12 pet ads that has been shown all the time. My forum is obviously not pet related at all.
I guess its because theres not very many words on the index page so the algoritm uses the usernames to make ads.
Do you think the algoritm will recognize tomcat in tomc_at?
Ask Google if you're permitted to use the section targeting (with weight=ignore) around every occurrence of the username. (Or around every user name, for that matter.)
Someone on this forum said that it's not permitted to use section targeting on small sections of text, but for a case like this, I can't see how Google can complain. Showing ads for cat food just because a user has the name tomcat is pretty irritating.
Its a phpbb forum and on the index side you have last post and username right of every subforum listed.
Unfortunately I dont think its possible to use the feature to cancel out unsernames on a phpbb forum....But if someone thinks its possible please let me know...

I dont want to put -pets in my keywords and then get flodded with pets ads because the system thinks I DO want pets ads.
[webmasterworld.com...] is a possibility.
I have tried it successfully on some of my pages - e.g. keywords -cheap, -diy, etc. it seemed to be effective for me in filtering out the ads I didn't want but leaving those better targeted to my "quality" page. I certainly don't have any ads for cheap or diy items showing now, although I did before I added the negative keywords.
