Text Ad Site Targetting

Thought site targetting was image only!

I e-mailed Google support about the hybrid text ad I saw on our site yesterday and got the response this morning which said what responders to the thread had told me, that it was just a stretched out text ad. The interesting part of their response was that it may have come up due to site targetting of text ads. I checked the site targetting under advanced reports, and sure enough, we had a small number of site targetted ad impressions yesterday. Looked back at the last few months and there were a tiny sprinkling here and there. Adsense support said they could turn it off, but the number of impressions was so trivial that I'm not going to bother. Besides, I turned off the "Advertise on this site" message last month thanks to this thread:

Turning off the "Advertise On This Site" will not keep you from being site targeted. You have to email and particularly request that. And yes, plenty of text ads are site targeted - I've done them myself on the AdWords side, and I'm almost always getting them on the AdSense side.

Didn't think turning off the "advertise on this site" would prevent site targetting, just that it wouldn't invite it. Turned it off just to get the extra text off the page, though I can't say we've seen any difference in earnings:-)
