I made a one page tool to do something and it caught on and was passed around very fast. i started with a 35$~ day and it went down to average 12$/day for the next 6.
Traffic will die soon.
I need to make a real site now :( I just don't really know where to begin. I'm more of an application/web application developer than a content rich guy on something that can actually make me money.
Oh well I'll take 100$ for 30 minutes of coding any day.
But, for the future, what's the best way to get started on the right foot for a SEO compliant website and the easiest CMS to use or whatever system you guys prefer. I jsut need ideas. I don't want to start the wrong way and have to redo everything.
I've learned a lot fromn this forum though, it's the best I've ever been on.
:)
I've been a long time reader of the forums, and as you can see to the left this is my first time postiing.
While it's my first time posting I have been in web development for awhile now and I think I can offer some advice on picking a CMS.
First, I think you really need to sit down and think how you want content to be presented. Will it be article based, or more blogish (one page containing several self contained posts)? If you're going for a blog, you're going to have a plethora of programs out there, many outstanding.
If you will be going for an article based site I have had good luck with Global Moxie's Big Medium. It's easy to use and the support has been great. He's getting ready to release version 2 which should offer more flexibility for display. Another CMS I've used is csArticles, it's not as robust as Big Medium, but if you can think abstractly and have some intermediate design skills you can do some cool things with it. Searching google for either of them should get you to the right place.
One piece of advice that I really recommend when picking a CMS is play, play, play with any demos available. See how far you can take it and see if it's going to meet your needs. Also, when using the demo take a look at the source code that it produces...is it SE friendly, does it validate?
You're in a great place to be because there seems to be many talented programmers out there that are creating some really great products that can allow you to get a jump start on things. However, don't be surprised that your site may need to depend on a couple of CMS's running together to achieve the results you want.
Best of luck
