Change in AdSense Targeting?

Noticed Less MFAs Today

I have been checking Ads for My niche by using the preview tool and by searching the content network for popular keywords. So far today, I have been very hard pressed to find a single MFA being displayed. Yet only a few days ago there were more MFA's being shown in the preview tool than legit ads. I have also noticed that ads for my niche outside the USA are displaying many more legit ads for US merchants. This is not necessarily such a good thing as many of these merchants are local to specific areas of the USA, not global merchants

I wonder if todays events are just an aberration or if anybody else is noticing changes

I second that motion. Please, let's keep this thread on topic.

Thanks.

david_uk don't leave yet! I think the winds of change are a blowin'!

I have removed the ads, but not shut down the account. I'll lurk here to see changes, and how they pan out.

Main problem is that there are few decent ads to be had in search - let alone content currently. Now if they targeted any decent ads (even low paying ones) I'd be tempted to try again.

I'm not sure what we are saying has happened here. Have Google made a change to their algo for definite, or is this observation?

So far, there are no "cries of pain in the Adwords forum," so the reported disappearance of MFAs from the content network is just anecdotal and maybe just coincidence. In other words, it's still likely business as usual.

Only anecdotal observation so far.

The cries of pain were if they if they expanded filtering also.

To my surprise they didn't, this time.

I have virtually no copy just links to "original" graphical content downloads(.zips). Basically, I can call any keyword to any page I wish (most people's dream). It took me months to find out which somewhat more expensive keywords my general but topic driven pages would convert with alined with my audience(were talking different aspects of general keywords). Some of the generic leser paying main niche ads (from the index page with no Adsense) are not polking themselves through like normal, usually one out of four ads. Also I usually acquire one or two new MFAs per day, that is not happening either.

I usually start weekend days off with 15 cent clicks and work up to 20 cents buy the end of the day (5 cents higher for weekdays). Today I started of with average 20 cent clicks, just a supporting factor. That moves up by 1/3 in Sept. Do I think that has started yet? No. So is seems the auction has become more targeted in some way to suppress higher volume lesser paying ads.

I don't know what they did but eCPM has risen sharply. A site that earns a few hundred a day has suddenly almost doubled. There has been no discernible change in quality of visitors, landing pages, or other variables.

David,
Nothing definite yet, only a few observations.

I have started to see MFA's creeping back in for my niche now.

No new MFAs

2 general topic ads from the index page trickling in the catory pages(300+ ads). Never had them before they look like good payers. CTR and eCPM above normal.

Although they are creeping back in they are definately fewer and those few are mostly confined to countries outside the USA. As most of my traffic and customers comes from the USA my ecpm seems ok right now.
