Hello,

Okay here's the thing. Someone copied my site, changed the layout, graphics, rearranged the content, modified the content a bit, then put adsense on it. I notified adsense and filed a DMCA with Google but they don't want to act. I was wondering why not?

The offender also owns the server that they are on (so no filing a DMCA there) and there are over a hundred sites on the server all owned by the same guy, all with adsense. Some of the sites are very similar, and interlink like little mini networks. For example there will be several restaurant review sites interlinked, several travel sites interlinked etc. I have to think with so many sites that they are probably all copied, or at least some, I doubt I am the only person he copied from...

This seems wrong. At the very least the copying is wrong - no matter how much its modified. And is it really okay to own over a hundred sites? Where is the line that you have to cross?

He doesn't own all the connections is that server. So go upstream.

Sorry, but I'm not aware of there being an upper limit.

Find other people he lifted content from and tell them. Maybe someone will have more leverage.

go upstream okay I'll lookup how to do that - and I'll use that copyscape or whatever its called - run some of his sites through there to see if I can find anyone else he has copied from. Thanks guys :)

Do a traceroute to his site. You will see all of the nodes that the packets pass through on the way to his site.

Find out who the IP address belongs to (use WHOIS, but with the reversed IP address plus in.addr.arpa. i.e. for 1.2.3.4 do WHOIS on 4.3.2.1.in.addr.arpa) 99% chance that the IP address was NOT issued to the person/organization owning the website.

99% chance the server is located in a data center, where they are just renting rack space. IF they even actually own the hardware. Usually the IP address will belong to the datacenter or the reseller who is leasing them the rack space.
