The topic says it all,

should I go for recurring visitors or primarily fresh ones?
Are they more likely to convert if they browse many pages?

I a victim of the June 27th Google update disaster.

Comparing values before and after the disaster reducing my Google traffic by more than 80%, visitors from search engines click much more than repeated visitors.

On the other side, when a repeated visitor clicks, the EPC is a little bit higher.

New visitors click more.

I believe that single-page visitors are more likely to click than multi-page visitors, based on the fact that the pages that are the top entry points on my site get the most clicks....

But I think it's self-defeating to go for new visitors. One of the reasons I get a steady flow of new visitors is that my site ranks high in the SERPs and has many links to it, because it's been around and it's respected. I get those new visitors because people like it, come back to it, link to it.

If there are only a few advertiser on your theme, then regular visitors won't click hundreds of times.

Couple of my themes are such that there are only handful of advertisers available - so regular visitors do not "click around". But regular visitors are more likely to create links pointing to your website, so they are valuable that way.

New visitors click more.

I don't think it's safe to assume that. Consider two hypothetical sites:

1) A CAMERA-REVIEW SITE

John Doe comes to this site for information on the latest digital cameras. He won't necessarily click during his first visit, but he will click when he reads a review that makes him think "I've gotta buy that"--which could be on his first, tenth, or hundredth visit to the site.

2) A TRAVEL-PLANNING SITE

Jane Buck is planning a trip to France. She visits a travel-planning site that has articles, links, and other resources for that country. She may not click an ad on her first visit, when she hasn't yet decided which cities are on her touring list, but she's likely to start clicking on ads for hotels and other services after she's decided that her vacation will include Paris, Avignon, and Nice and she's planning the details of her trip.

As I've mentioned before, DoubleClick published the results of a "Search Before the Purchase" study last year that showed the typical online purchase is preceded by multiple research sessiong over a period of weeks. Most buyers of travel, computer hardware, clothing, etc. don't make a purchase decision right away--which means that, if a site caters only to first-time visitors, the publisher is leaving money on the table.

new - log all first time users and adsense clicks for those people on a channel
repeat - log all 2nd time viewers and adsense clicks for those people on a channel
members - log all members and adsense clicks for those people on a channel

then you know who rakes it in for you! improve that and you earn more
