Ann, I have read with glee your post about your channels experience and I want to thank you for sharing that with us.
Concerning your current dilema, I have a question that I deducted from your post. You said you removed everything but adsense and your visitors are sticking around longer for more page views and that you traffic has increased. Now there have been rumors of Google and Yahoo dinging websites with affiliate links, could the higher traffic really be reflecting that possiblity? Is that something you have thought of during this transistion? I'm sure you would have a pretty good idea by determining how the visitors come to your site? Are your logs reflecting more natural referrals since all of this? Has your position in the SERPS changed as a result of the restructure?

heard about this too... have been corresponding with a few webmasters who have been affected by this (their websites totally removed from serps). Make no sense... if that were the case, wouldn't the Adsense referral buttons be considered affiliate links?

I don't want to add to the continuous white noise of smartpricing rumours, but I do wonder if they might just consider other advertisers a reason for not converting? IE if there is excessive advertising from other sources, would that count against you?

I was thinking of dumping fastclick on the grounds that they don't pay me much, but I don't see how I'd measure that decision in adsense stats. I think it would be difficult to prove any connection.

Unfortunately, because of the living and breathing nature of the Internet and its ever-flux, its hard to determine if sites are being placed higher in the SERPS with less affiliate links then those that have more. A side note, concerning MFA's, if you know of one that is ranking high in Google for a particular term, how is that site ranking in Yahoo or MSN? I did not mean to detract from Ann's post, so I maybe starting a different thread on this subject.

If not, it would surprise me that people are sticking around longer (bear with me, congrats on the higer page views :P) since from what little I know, other affiliates allow for the click on ad to open up a new window, therefore leaving your site, yes, but only through a new browser window while your site is still in the older window. Maybe they find what they are looking for and just simple close out the older window. I don't know, only your logs can only tell you that.. And to further beg the question, If your site being just adsense, how well is their targeting for you, if they are viewing more pages, as opposed to the others ads having a history of taking them from your site?

I beleive I said my traffic goes up AND down but it is more sticky (people staying around to read it) then it was before. I do expect it to go up starting end of this month. The amount of pages viewed is also shown in my stats so that is where I get the "more sticky" from. :)

Not sure what you mean when you said "dinging sites with affiliate links"? Mine are information sites, well focused, and I have only 1 affiliate link on it. No the traffic I see in my stats are pretty much as always, regular actors (SE's) and links, bookmarks type ins etc. Nothing unusual.

I have been counting PV's the same for a couple of years and give or take about 3 thousand It was always right on the money. The diviation being from pages where I could not put adsense, bot visits and so forth.

I have been seeing an increase in payout per click and tha's a big improvement.

I took other ads off as FC/VC and tribal fusion were turning into a full time job in chasing down and killing their "take over" ads only to have them pop in again with a new URL. I see the end in sight for their brand of advertising as not cleaning up their act and letting the ads get more and more invasive is tantamount to committing suicide.

This really is a problem to me and a little worrisome. Has anyone else experienced what is happening or is it just me?

I feel like just giving up working to improve page views when I am not even getting credit for them. Maybe I am missing something but I have always figured it within the 3 to 5 thousand variance in the past and been right on it except for about 4 days this month, one day last month and tonight.

I calc using unique visitors as I feel the returning ones have already been through the site and just buzzed by to read the changes.
