I know many people are facing this situation....
1. I'm a F-1 International student studying in the U.S. We do have a 20 hr/week work-limit.
2. I'm interested in putting Google Ads on my new video blog. It will be like a project where I'll take videos/interview students from my campus just for fun and post it online.
3. I know(or it sounds like) that this is not a job, but just a hobby, where by putting Google Ads on my blog, I'll get some money back to pay for bandwith etc. Because it's same as seling Ebooks on Ebay and earning lots of money. Or, for that matter, selling your season football ticket for $2000.
4. Now, Google will take my SSN etc. for Tax purpose.
a> I was wondering, if by earning money from Google Ads means working for somebody/employer? (I know you guys are not Tax advisors, but some hints would be really appreciated)
b> Are there other ad programs/ad revenue companies where they don't take Tax ID/ SSN info etc.? I know AdBrite does take those info. Please tell me.
c> So, how the Tax thing works anyway? Google sends info to IRS right? How much is the Tax for say $100 income for one month?
5. I know that I can use my home country address and my parents will get the checks, but I don't want to go thru that complicated process.
6. This is what Google had to say -
As long as I can provide a valid address and other necessary data when filling out the application, there is no reason why I shouldn't be able to participate in the program.
blah blah......
7. Last question, how much is the limit money for not getting taxed? Is it $200?
Thanks a LOT to ya'll for any help.
Cheers and rock on!

Wow, how long have you been in the US? Using a southern slang term and all! lol
Anyway, no matter what you have to report the income to the IRS. $100.00 income a month should not mean paying much in taxes but that would be in conjunction with your part time job, etc.
On average you might pay 20% but that depends on many things and I am not a tax expert by any means.
Good luck!

I think this is more of an immigration issue than a tax issue, and the best advice I can give is for the person to contact Immigration to clarify.
If someone violates viza terms it can result in deportation. Working (if immigration considers it so) beyond what is allowed on a student viza would be a very very bad thing.
I am an international student as well. u brought up a very good point. as far as immigration rules F1 students are not supposed to work for any company other than ur college. But i am not sure if the whole internet thing applies. Because i used to make money on ebay and now adsense. Ur best bet would be to talk to ur international student advisor or simply contact the immigration dept for clarification. My site makes over $2000 a month and i never considered enquiring about this issue. I will find it out and keep u updated...good luck!
