I was recently going through the advertisers from one of my pages that generally gathers up some of the lowlife ads. One of them was for an online survey win a free gift thing. No matter how many times I tried to cut and paste the url, it would not work. It could be a problem with my computer, but I also tried other urls, which worked perfectly. Ive never heard of this before, but it sure made it more difficult to ad it to my scumbag site filter. I had to wonder if that was the intent.

Where are you cutting and pasting the url from?

I always cut and paste urls for filtering purposes by right-clicking on the title of the Adsense ad, selecting "Properties", and identifying the "adurl=" portion of the link.

If you're going to the landing page of the ad to accomplish this, (a) how are you getting there without knowing the url in the first place and (b) this is an unreliable way to filter because you might have been redirected to get to the landing page you see. In this case adding that url to your filter list will not filter the ad.

I find the url by right clicking on the adsense ad and choosing
This Frame->View Frame Source (Firefox)
Then poking through the js code to find the url. I then cut n paste the entire url into the address bar. When I decide to block, as in this case, I copy the domain name (without the www) from the address bar and paste it into the competitive ad filter, open in another window. After several tries, I realized it was not being copied to my clipboard.
It seems likely it could be my pc what's causing it even though I was able to cut and paste the other urls.

I don't normally use Firefox (the Adsense Preview Tool doesn't work in it!) but I just tried your method in Firefox and it should be an OK way to cut and paste ad urls as well.

I've occasionally seen this inability to cut-and-paste. It seems to be more of a Fireox (or maybe Windows) bug than anything else. It could possibly be related to some kind of scripting or executable on the page, but I doubt anyone could trigger it reliably. And since the odds of a cross-browser hack existing that causes this effect are just about nil.

This is an ongoing firefox problem with cut and paste. When you ask them over at mozilla about it, they say it must come from some other software interfering with Firefox.. Umm.. ok..

It only happens to me when my windows clipboard is full. Usually about 12 items can be stored at a time. It is a windows bug I believe. I'm running XP pro

I think it is a combination of some executable, my pc, and firefox. My connection has been very spotty today, and during those times when it was down, and i had the page inquestion open, i could copy it. When the connection was good, I could not copy it. Other people have been able to copy the url from this page.
