Home Page Name Change: Mistake?

Will it cause more harm than help?

I'm currently stuck in a condition where ads on my home page are off target, and so I've had to replace them temporarily with alternate ads.

As we know, there's no way to expedite the Adsense bot to come back and fix your ads, but one possible solution, which usually isn't viable, is to give the page a new name, causing you to get a bot visit instantly on the new page.

Right now, whether you type mydomain.com/ or mydomain.com/index.html you get mydomain.com/

I'm thinking of changing it so that either condition causes the server to redirect to mydomain.com/index.html, at least temporarily. This would fix my off target ads.

But would doing this cause more harm than good? Will doing this screw me up in the SERPs?

Put your hands up and step away from the FTP package!

Don't do it, just remember these wise words:

Act in haste, repent in leisure.

I'm not sure. Generally we don't put ads on the homepage.

Several years ago we had a problem with www. showing relevant ads, and nonwww. showing irrelevant ads. We wound up do a redirect to www.
