Good idea to stop Smartpricing?

After six months in Google and an average (very constant) EPC of 12 cents my earnings have are down because of falling EPC (9 cents during the last ten days which is a lot for me with 4000-5000 clicks per month!).

I have no idea why the sudden fall.

Would it be a stupid idea to cancel my Adsense-account and then in two weeks or so to reapply? Would then the history of my account still be there?

Sounds like a bad idea to me. Surely whatever's causing the drop in EPC will do the same for the new account as well?

I just don't see that as a big enough change, there are so too variables that may be setting that price, to make a judgement on the cause of the drop for you. Hang in there...it'll go back up.

Could you be affected by a seasonal decrease? With six months in the program, you have no values to compare your earnings against, from last year. I would rather look at the usual techniques to improve earnings (aggressive filtering, experimenting with placements and colours, and so on) before pulling the plug.

The Adsense system is great - if we only can get rid of those who abuse it, apparently uncontrolled.

Probably, and there's no guarantee that Google would readmit you. In fact, they very well might not readmit you, and for good reason: Why would they want a publisher who's wasted their time and money by resigning from the network and reapplying? Especially when, if you weren't happy with your earnings, you could have simply removed the AdSense code from your pages?

"Hang in there...it'll go back up. "

This may be good advice. In my experience, EPC keeps going up and down ever so often. IMO Google updates smart pricing values quite regularly or advertiser bid prices may suddenly increase. So keep at it...

Google has you both ways--click fraud or what appears to be, smart pricing, etc, and then if you remove your ads for awhile to get rid of a problem you can be banned for too few impressions (as detirmined by Google...:))

Durned if you do and durned if you don't!

"Can be" and "will be" are two different things. Careful, or you'll start a panic, and somebody might get hurt in the stampede. :-)

taken from [webmasterworld.com...]

Sorry for your troubles GP.
Having had a terrible run with adsense, going steadily downward since November, I have gone back over my own actions over the past few months to when the slide began.

I think I found the one thing that has been escaping me though like the forest hiding the trees I just couldn't see it.

At this time I will not say what it is until I give it at least a weeks test...don't want to lead anyone in a false direction and the idea has never, to my knowledge, been discussed in here.

Have already begun the test and in 4 and a half hours I am showing a little improvement but I don't want it to be just wishful thinking.

When I feel certain I am on to something I will start a thread to tell others about it.

Here's hoping!

Ann, what did you discover through your little test?

You need to do more analysis. Set up channels, as many as possible, and determine what pages are bringing in the bucks, and monitor cylical changes.

A new account will do nothing, though I don't beleive you've been smartpriced, there is no way to make any hypothesis without getting some stats togethor.

A drop like that may also be due in part to a change in advertisers or bid prices. For me it seems normal to have variations like that on only several thousand clicks, especially if it's just from one site or one topic area.
