Search Click Attack!

How does Google monitor?

When I logged-off last night my search results were looking "normal".

This morning, yesterday's results showed a 133% CTR and today's so far 643%.

Presumably Google knows that there has been a "click attack" since, until now, I appear to have been credited with the value of only one click.

Has anyone had such an attack before and, considering that I have only been credited with only one click, need not contact Google since they're on top of the situation?

Then again, maybe they're checking it out and I may get credited with another 40+ clicks!

I'd drop Google an e-mail asap, saying that it looks like you've had a click attack. While I'm sure they have your IPs, etc, what you don't want is for them to think it's in any way related to your activity, and dropping them an e-mail would help to re-enforce that.

Hi, I did that before I even posted here asking if there's anything I need to do or will they monitor it.

Presumably a search click attack could be targeted at any niche sector since the search box is available for everything?

At least it looks as they they're on the ball or maybe just waiting to get into work to verify my popularity:-)

Ooops - sorry - I didn't check the poster before replying; if I'd realised it was a regular, I wouldn't have posted something quite so obvious!

No problem however my interest is whether anyone else has had such an attack and what, if anything, happened?

I expect I'll get a response from Google some time later today.

Maybe when the US Adsensers log-in we may learn something.

I've had a couple of big click attacks (on content ads, not search ads). In each case, I notified Google, they said "thanks," and that was it.

If your site is profitable for Google and will withstand a manual review, you shouldn't have much to worry about.

Side note: Assuming that Google hasn't already thrown ouot he invalid clicks, the value of those clicks will likely be deducted from your monthly payment. However, the adjustment for those clicks won't show up in your online statistics, which will display the existing totals (including the invalid clicks) now and forevermore. At least, that's been my experience.

The good news is that Google have monitored the situation and all appears to be running normally!

I reckon that person's been reading too many of my "normal" earnings posts:-)
